The dreadfully slow longships

I really don't know much about the other ships in Cantr, but I find it a bit strange that the longships are so slow...especially the docking process.
Longships were after all famous (or infamous perhaps) for their fast docking/undocking process, making it possible for the vikings to make lightning fast raids and be gone before the soldiers from the surrounding region could catch them.
I would just like to know if there is a reason for it or not
Yes...I'm bored.

Yeah he's right! Actually I really agree with this. It is historically correct that the longships were used for fast docking, and it would seem the larger ships would take longer to dock than the smaller ships.

I know. It is so slow that I don't let my chars build those ships anymore.
You should try a raker... you don't know what is happening.
I once asked, since a longboat it is actually a boat to row with, and sail (at least according to google

) so when there are more pple on board shouldn't you actually go faster?
The docking of a longboat sometimes takes days...

I've always taken the docking process to be based on how far out from the location you are when you start docking. I've always gathered that you can be about as far as twenty turns away from a location (in a longboat) when you start seeing a place that you can dock.
Don't forget that when you're docking you also have to travel the remainder of the distance to the location. If you hit "Dock" the first turn that you see alocation become available you've got the entire distance to go before hitting land. In a small, slow boat that's going to take a while.

Ahhh thats the whole point, longboats were known to be fast and swift. They were suppose to be ones who could dock fast.

But not everything in cantr's like real life.
Although I do agree with you...
It took my char 5 years to get from Dory to Longinazy by longboat, and a different character about 3 days in a raker going the other way.

Yeah - my comments were based on IG experience, not real-world...

5 years?? You must have been loaded with stuff! Took me and one other passenger only 1 year for that same trip.
In any case, I can assure you, that more boats are coming, I can't tell you anything about them, nor will I make comments on the Longboat. But I can say that these other boats may or may not be similiar to the Longboat, but 'opposite'. You may not understand this cryptic responce, but you will if you discover this other boat, and evaluate it against the Longboat. And if that's the case, or you understand what I'm saying, keep your mouth shut

Well I figured out what you were saying three seconds after I read your post.

Good for you.
Just so everyone knows, TJ asked me if Longboats should be faster. I thought about it for half a second, and said No.
BUT! I changed my mind. I was looking through my pages, evaluating the Longboat against all others, and I realised how unfair the Longboat is. It's so slow compared to what it could be.
Therefore, the Longboat is now twice as fast. Also, three newer boats were added, and one extra land vehicle. Have fun

hmm am I just a bit blind or are there only 2 new boats?

But thanks Anthony

I suspect one of the new vehicles is the second Raker. There are now two vehicals named the Raker, one that takes steel and one that doesn't.
Incidentally, a galleon IRL is HUGE. Bigger than many towns. Required a crew of at least dozens. I don't think the ?new? cantr galleon is any bigger than a brig.

Two Rakers? Ahh, thanks. Fixed.
The new boats: Raft, Sloop, Galleon.
I can't make comments on the Galleon's size, but... I wouldn't be surprized if you were right

A galleon was a large ship for it's time but compared to the large ships of today very small.
I've understood any debate over longboat speed, the longboat was fast compared to other ships of it's time (the viking longboat was the most advanced boat of it's time), but in Cantr there are only a few boats, the dugout, rowboat, dingy and possibly the ferry, that are less advanced, therefore all the other boats should be somewhat faster then the longboat.
