I have a character who lived through the Cantr City slaughter... As long as he lives, Delano and the old Cantr City will not be forgotten. As far as I can tell Cantr City is slowly recovering. Due to the alteration of the spawning system, Cantr City does not enjoy the large number of clueless new players looking for work and that hampers some of the growing business (well at least mine).

Cantr City is really just a growing community again, rather than a thriving one.

I disagree. Cantr City is like a ghost town. Very quiet and most people very reserved or completely silent. Most, but not all. :P

I don't know about a ghost town. It is quiet, but things are happening so it is growing. Although my character is inside a lot so he doesn't really know.

I may have missed used the word community though. Not much of a community. But Cantr City will recover eventually. Well, at least I hope so.

I agree. It is way too quite for it's population...

Disclaimer: I know full well this is a typo, but I can't resist anyway.

Wow, the 50's! What do they say? Are there references to the sock hops and calling everybody Daddy-O? Is everything nifty and keen? Are the gangs called greasers and hitters?

Non Americans might not get this, since these are American nostalgic references.

I was there, but only for a ten months. I doubt I created any noteworthy bits of history that would have been talked about.

i have never been to cantr city. but reading William's note has made me want to find out more about the events that happened there. Since after i said something about it to the public in Azen Hills the note has dissapeared before i could make a copy of it. My character Richard Rahl in Azen Hills is currently trying to recover from alot of starvation and animal attacks and is going to make his way there to find out the whole history of the place. *sounds kinda fun. like finding out the secret of the sphinx or something.

here I managed to find someone who had a copy of it.

A short history of Cantr City

Cantr City is probably one of the eldest cities in this world. It was founded even
before the current time system.

The strange thing is that Cantr City did never have a real government. The city has
always been governed by the community as a whole. The cooperative atmosphere made
this kind of system always work well. Although Cantr City did have a professional
Guard for some years, most of the time even that was not necessary, as the city has
always been very peaceful. Only some individual criminals caused trouble, but they
were always stopped by the citizens.

Another strange thing about Cantr City is that no food can be found in the city. This
is why the first building that was made was an inn. The inn, property of the
community, started baking bread and was supplying all active people in the city with
free bread, while the people themselves helped the inn by bringing the resources for
the bread.

For a very long time, Cantr City has been very prosperous. Thanks to the peaceful
atmosphere, business activity was great. Friendly relations, also in trading, were
established with the whole region. From somewehere around day 450, rumours arose that
the Lad Empire would have plans to invade Cantr City. But this never happened,
probably because visitors from Lad were always treated like friends, just like all
other visitors.

The disaster started around day 550, when three bandits locked themselves up into a
building and only came out every day to kill all people they could find. Some 25% of
the population was killed or ran away before the crisis was settled. Returning to the
old situation was not in question, however, because around 560 soldiers from Alenz
Hills took over Cantr City. They killed almost 75% of the people that were left and
demanded all survivors to leave the city, for everybody that would stay, would be
killed. Almost noone dared to stay in the city.

This is the moment that I am writing this history. As I am the only person of the
founders of the city that is still alive, I cannot run away and give this city to
these bandits with whom we always thought we had friendly relations. I am almost
alone in this ghost city now, together with a lot of dead bodies, among them all my
good friends. Even my wife Phaedra disappeared. I will wait untill the soldiers will
clean the city and this way I will go down together with Cantr City.

Signed in Cantr City, day 561,

William Delano
(manager of Cantr Inn)

its very strange why would anyone want to come in a slaughter people of a town that is said to be very peacfull.

I think Cantr City may be the only only society in Cantr that has successfully maintained anarchy.

I wouldn't say that. Cantr City may not have any form of "government", but it's still run by its people in a sense.

Anarchy is having no government, or the change between one to another. During Anarchy, there is completle chaos and confusion among the people, because of their attempts to start a new government, or change to the rules of the newly elected or enacted government.

Since Cantr City isn't in the process of "Chaos", they're rather not an Anarchy, but their own form of government run by the people - which, I don't think has a name. (Cough cough: Perhaps one should be created by the Cantarian City people? *Wink*)

Anarchy is not a state of chaos or confusion, or even necessarily a state of transition.

It is a communal system, although it RL none that I know of have ever survived for a significant lenght of time.

I think it was the Enlightenment period? when alot of authors and artists and such attempted to live in anarchy. Those of them with some wealth from their works and such purchased various lands away from the mainstream society, and I think one group was able to function somewhat well for a year or two. Anyway, they were writers and not farmers and such, so they began to go a bit hungry and returned to their regular lives

Dictionary.com says:

- Absence of any form of political authority.
- Political disorder and confusion.
- Absence of any cohesive principle, such as a common standard or purpose

and...

- Absence of government; the state of society where there is no law or supreme power; a state of lawlessness; political confusion.

and...

- a state of lawlessness and disorder (usually resulting from a failure of government) [syn: lawlessness]

Marriam-Webster Online (www.m-w.com) says:

- absence of government
- a state of lawlessness or political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority
- absence or denial of any authority or established order
- absence of order : DISORDER

----------

I win

I also have played a lot of the Civilization games, and they state the same thing. Anarchy is the worst 'government' to have, because it's complete chaos. Nothing good happens from it, development wise.
