If you were to advertise Cantr, where would you do it? Do you think there are particular social media, or websites, or blogs, or magazines, that are often used by Cantr players or the kind of people who would be interested in Cantr?

Cantr, being only text-based and pure roleplay, is quite a niche game, so we need to find the right niche to advertise.

In the past, a discussion forum on Swedish soccer was one of the best hits, but that probably cannot be repeated

What about forums for rpg writers and such. People who like stories , character development etc etc. The ad could Contain a small snippet of an event log of something Iinteresting or unique like from klojt university while elyos was there. Not a log of mundane things but some exciting event. Have a competition here for the best event / log

What about making it possible to find Cantr by googling? I honestly have no idea what one should type in Polish to find Cantr. I bet we would have more players if it was possible to find it.

Making Cantr appear in Google search comes by advertising it on other websites. It's no simple task (a lot of money goes into putting sites on the top of Google's lists). Mentioning Cantr with the url cantr.net on other sites helps with this.

Reddit also has a historic underside to it should a popular player there be banned\chastised (Like somethingawful really). Its why I thought simply targeting "story" based forums might be better than forums with a large gaming section.

MUDs are the closest thing to Cantr, IMO, but have a relatively small player base and may be biased against browser based games. Still, you could probably pick up a few there - and there are mud forums and listings out there. You wouldn't need paid ads there, or on rpg forums, specific game forums, etc. - just a few posts by players to draw interest through shared stories. If you're looking at paid ads... Dunno, Facebook might be a thought? I dunno how useful their metrics are.

There's always adding Cantr as a site of interest in StumbleUpon and associated apps, too.

I've had some luck on game sites where the goal isn't RP but there's a detailed lore/background to the setting. It tends to invite people who enjoy text-based roleplay as an aside to the game but are happy to have the world around them pre-established. There's a lot of petsites somewhere on that scale, and not all of them populated by the kinds of players you'd expect to be disruptive.

Not sure where you were advertising to start, and not sure what's current since I haven't scratched that particular itch for a few years, but there used to be topmudsites.com (I think) and themudconnector - not sure on URL. Then you've got the actual games themselves.

A lot of those sites are vote-based for their ranking system, right? Maybe a link on the character page pointing to vote pages, with a reminder for those who haven't done so yet that day (and disappears once they have) might be handy?

There already is a list on the player page (does this need to be more noticeable?), though I don't doubt there are more sites that could be added to the list. As for a reminder..perhaps. I'm not sure how long it would take to implement that.

I ignore that list because it isn't noticeable and is too clunky. As for annoying, make the reminder opt out.
