Whut.
Clearly this person is a very intelligent individual with medical training and yet has managed to quite spectacularly miss some of the most basic concepts of the game.

You don't even have to compare it to other games for that to apply. In Cantr, kidnapping, suicide, murder, torture, rape, and slavery are all things you might encounter...and yet both IC and OOC, these all somehow pale in comparison to a character being rude or insensitive, the worst sins of all.
And of course a pet peeve of mine has always been the way the ones who make accusations of 'meanness' are usually the first to go to violence and hatemongering as a means of solving their problems. So that's another reason I'm never too fond of 'nice' or 'sensitive' chars, the two-facedness and venom-spitting hypocrisy is kind of triggering for me. I deal with too much of that IRL as it is, it makes me think these people are all played by my co-workers or something.

Just like when someone gets murdered IRL, the police must figure out why the victim made that happen with their meanness.
My favorite recent example from the quotes thread still has to be 'Swiler croaked'.
But seriously though, I wonder how healthy that is, to not be in control of your own character's actions, and not be able to separate IC from OOC in general? It's a roleplaying game, and there are definitely people in the community who lose sight of the 'role', 'playing', and also 'game' part of that.
Probably going a little off topic here, though. (Compy, for what it's worth I'm sure most players are nicer IRL than their characters, seeing how I'm presuming most of us aren't playing the game from prison.

Those two are not the same thing. Not being in control of your character is entirely different and rather unrelated from not being able to separate IC from OOC. And no, it's not healthy at all.

Because the control doesn't work on everyone. Just those who aren't free. And it usually doesn't work quite the way you want unless you've mastered manipulation. Unless you've mastered it, what you control people to do isn't quite in your control.

It's a general trend I've noticed with those kind of characters, and their players though. Being unable to separate their feelings from that of their chars, having all their chars have the same feelings and opinions about things, same personalities, and so on. And then having it spill over onto the forums too...it just gets old. There's examples of it everywhere. 'When people are mean to my characters with their characters, it upsets me IRL. Maybe I'll just kill them all. Maybe I'll go outside and eat dirt.'. It's not a good trend or a healthy way to approach a game. Makes me almost long for the old days of constant massacres, maybe it would toughen some of these people up and help them distance themselves a little.
Being emotionally manipulative IC is one thing but I know I'm not the only one that's noticed the trend of it OOC, both in the game and on the forums. Don't complain about your characters getting 'bullied and harassed' and then turn around and do the same to their
players. I think that's a reasonable request.

I think the point of that is, whatever you do with your characters will only work so far as people are willing to play along with it.

Right, to get back on topic.
One thing I'd meant to add the other day was that this went beyond the recent trend of 'severe medical conditions' and applied to characters claiming supernatural powers, prophetic visions, demonic possession and so on, which has come and gone as a fad at different times as well. It can be done in a way that works and makes things interesting...or it can get them tossed in the special special spotlight grabbing snowflake pile, based on pretty much the same criteria discussed before. Adding to RP vs demanding it all revolve around you.

I won't deny the correlative trend, but they are different things.
I'll try again, sorry for being confusing. Your actions (including words, especially in a game made of words) have an effect on other characters. That effect controls them. Unless you've mastered choosing actions which will control people in the way you want, then you aren't quite in control of how your actions control other characters. ..I'm not sure, is that any better?
Edit: I realize I forgot to unpack that bit about people who aren't free. ..I think I'll pass unless asked, except to leave it at saying not every character is controlled by what goes on around them.
On the topic of medical conditions and other non-mechanics based phenomena, I agree that if you find you're hogging the "screentime" as it were, or that people start distancing themselves from you, it's probably best to scale back that "condition", perhaps even all the way to a close.
