What to do when all the slots are full?

I would really like to spawn a new character, but my slots are full and I can't decide which one of my existing characters to cull to make room for the new one. Should I make a poll like Shaudawn did? Alternatively, how could I make my existing characters interesting enough so that I wouldn't want them to die?

My English characters:

1) Looking to make things right after having a very violent past. He would deserve to be punished, but he's very good at getting out of trouble. He's over 200 years old and quite rich.

2) Town leader, has lost all the people who were closest to her and it has left her cynical and very trade oriented. Worried that the town will go bankrupt unless something changes.

3) A philantrophist, currently on a long journey. She once lost all the people she cared about, but managed to find some new friends.

4) A somewhat grumpy sailor who suffered a big loss in the past, but has since recovered, at least somewhat. Is helping a young man fulfill a plan, but has no plans of his own beyond that.

5) A grumpy old lady who often wishes she would die, but is too stubborn to end her own life. There is one man who is her anchor in life, without him she would've given up long ago.

6) A scarred man who almost died in the past, but struggled to survive and found new love. Nowadays he mainly sits around all day and has his lover do everything for him, like laundry and cooking.

7) A loner who lost the only person he truly cared about. He's now on a quest to find rare materials (such as opals) but he has no idea what he's going to do with them. He already has several kilos of marble and a map to several rare resources.

8) A middle-aged woman who doesn't express herself much. Her creative days have gone past and now she's only interested in upgrading her sloop, even though she doesn't travel all that much. She would have the potential to become some kind of a witch.

9) A youthful man who recently passed the age of 60. He has a boyfriend and constantly has to remind him to eat something. He's disappointed in his surroundings.

10) A childish woman who has lost almost everybody she cares about. She's 55 days from being old enough to have a heart attack. She has trouble digesting gluten so her diet has always been a rollercoaster ride. Some days she doesn't eat at all because her stomach hurts. Once she was half starved but people noticed and started feeding her again.

11) A depressed woman who has lost her creative spark and terribly misses her friends. She just works on long projects to escape from thinking. She's 81 days from being old enough to have a heart attack.

12) A lonely middle-aged man who has a bit of a crush on his only friend, but can't talk about it. He finds life pretty pointless but has made investments in his workshop, even though customers are nowhere to be seen.

13) My young one, who's almost 30. He's a worker drone, but his town seems to appreciate him. He was a social experiment, which came to show that Cantrians are very tolerant and it's the personality that truly counts, not the outer shell. No one has ever been mean to him in his whole life, so he developed very kind in turn. He used to have a crush one somebody but got over it.

My Finnish characters:

14) A busy bee who travels between three little settlements to transport resources. Occasionally goes on mapping expeditions.

15) A somewhat disenchanted man, who traveled very far just to make a soldering iron, only to use it once and that's all. Now he's working on stuff to tame a zebra.

Could one of your current chars find some kind of catharsis? A blank slate doesn’t always address ennui, and your current chars will have more resources to devote to new goals.

Seriously - I couldn't choose. One of the ones on that list is one that I know is known by very few but is one of my favorites. I'd say probably not the Finnish ones since that language group is so small. I just don't think I could choose - your characters are always so awesome!

Yes, unfortunately that's the case :( Though losing one finnish chat will make it even more boring so... It's kinda bad decision, for small language group who is already struggling

So in that sense I can't think anyone whose worth culling there so I would suggest what sanchez said

I suggested against killing one of the two Finnish characters. Sorry if I was not clear. So it should be one of the 13 English ones.

For me, ending a story is usually done when they reach a life crisis... a loss of someone close or the destruction of their way of life. Or when they're floundering and the burden becomes too much.

I suggest finding one that would be most difficult to make for an interesting story in the future. Personally, though, I find it difficult to make more than a handful of characters 'interesting' at any given time. There is only so much time and attention I can give to each character, and the ones who are currently being 'uninteresting' tend to quietly work until such point as I feel like playing them.

Every character has that potential. It helps to have a goal to work toward. Something in line with their previous behavior, preferably. I have a character who has expressed an interest in music, for instance, but I have not had the time or energy to put toward progress toward that or writing any songs for her to sing.

Which ones do you, personally, get the least enjoyment out of playing? Putting the side the issue of any others around them.

Well look on the bright side, I guess you don't have to decide which char to kill any more.

Yeah. My newspawn came with a high pricetag.

One of my newspawns carried a high price tag as well (my sailing explorer, Milo Fabron) but I've honestly been enjoying that spawn as well. So it was a mixed blessing.
