Loneliness

Postby SekoETC » Sun Aug 23, 2015 6:37 pm

1. All of his friends are dead save for one, whom he doesn't see very often. He recently made a new friend, but we'll see how long that lasts.

2. Is surrounded by people, in one of the largest towns of the English region, yet lonely on the inside. She once went as far as to pay a newspawn for the right to slap her in the face, because giving (or receiving) pain is one of the few things that helps her feel better.

3. Is sailing with one person, but misses her old friends terribly. It just isn't the same.

4. Has a girlfriend and is helping a newspawn fill his life goal. Still occasionally misses his late wife after decades.

5. Has never really connected with anyone. Sails with a larger crew than any of my other characters, yet truly cares for only one of them, and even that is platonic. Will probably die a virgin.

6. Is happy with his girlfriend. Has gotten over the loss of his previous two girlfriends and no longer feels guilty for their deaths.

7. So very lonely. It would probably be easier for him to find him a date if he was gay, but he's not. Too few people and most of them male. Misses his late wife terribly and is an awful sob about it.

8. Spends all her time with her boyfriend, but I have the feeling they may have started growing apart.

9. Has spent a lot of time with his boyfriend and has every ingame reason to be happy, but OOCly this just isn't enough for me.

10. Her boyfriend is asleep so she feels lonely. She used to care very deeply for another man but came to understand that he could never love her back, other than in the way a father loves a daughter.

11. Is asexual, so doesn't even miss a romantic connection, but misses friends. She had a couple of friends that went on an expedition, and she doesn't even know that one of them went because the radio message was heard by an irrelevant character instead of this one.

12. Has one friend, who went traveling with another man because she felt a connection with him, something she could never have with my character. I watched their interaction from aside for a while and was sad that my roleplaying isn't that lively nowaydays. I assume this character is straight, but he's never been in love, so there's a chance he might be asexual. He feels awkward seeing other couples around. Maybe reflecting my autism spectrum disorder.

13. My newest, he used to have a crush on his town leader (who's married), but understood that he could never have her, at least as long as the husband is alive. Doesn't feel a connection to anyone else in town. He just does his job and lets others do the socializing. The leader is the only person keeping him from leaving.

14. My oldest Finnish character, knows a few people but doesn't have strong feelings towards any of them.

15. My other Finnish character, has always been a hermit. Is happy to know other people are still alive but doesn't really socialize much.

Well, this is a particularly depressing idea...

1.) Has a fulfilling job, co-workers she admires, and now some personal goals to aim for. She's married to her career and would turn down relationships even if people were throwing themselves at her.

2.) Wishes there were more people in her town, but more to help with the decade worth of work still needing to be done. Too busy and focused to be lonely.

3.) Lives in one of the biggest, liveliest towns on that half of the island. Enjoys the atmosphere of the place, has a couple of people she admires who are also good friends, and has both personal goals and plans for helping the town and the region. Never been lonely.

4.) Has had a single close friend since spawning, has made a few more recently and is having adventures. Completely fulfilled and happy in life.

5.) Had an empty and unfulfilling relationship with the only other permanent resident of the town she spawned in. Somewhere else now, isn't close to anyone, doesn't see the need to be. A little bored, maybe, but it's never occurred to her that she should be lonely.

...am I playing the game wrong?

But this one (If your characters were mermaids...) totally makes up for it!

So, on topic...most of my chars are depressed or indifferent to life right now. Mostly due to their player being a jerk and not playing them.

I'll bite, I guess.

1. Friendly, social, stable, with a job, a goal, a home, and a burgeoning relationship with a drifter. Nonetheless, sometimes struck by loneliness and a deep, inexplicable longing for things he's never yet experienced.
2. Doesn't mind being alone, and has spent most of her time that way.
3. Hates other people, and doesn't mind being alone.
4. Enjoys the company of others, but doesn't participate in the chatter.
5. Felt ignored and unimportant in his home town - doesn't matter if he's lonely now, because soon he'll be dead.
6. Surrounded by people she doesn't understand, and intensely lonely for that very reason.
7. Thrilled by being alone - alive for the first time since spawning into a cycle of endless work.
8. Intensely lonely, but deeply mistrustful of other people. A self-perpetuating cycle of self-loathing, bitterness and rage that continually is internalized.
9. Dislikes his spawn town, because it's actively trying to kill him. Loneliness doesn't come into it.

Story of my current level of gameplay.

But seriously:

3. Doesn't relate well to people unless they're making innuendos. She expects that. She knows there's something missing but she doesn't know what, only that it's most likely not a romantic relationship.

4. This one feels guilty because she left years and years ago and essentially abandoned her people because I, the player, am an idiot. Which fits into her brand of religion.

6. He misses his dead girlfriend all the time but he's learned to move on. Now his only company has lost her boyfriend and he's reliving it all over again. Maybe if they were feeling particularly vulnerable they'd do it together but he'd feel awful about it afterward.

9. This one is not lonely as long as her travel companion is around. Any other time it's like she lives in a haze.

10. This one finds people uninteresting and spends most of her time sleeping and complaining because people won't let her sleep. But if I were to send her out by herself she'd probably find that she needs people as much as she needs sleep.

14. This one wouldn't know loneliness if it came up to her, introduced itself, and proceeded to eat her alive. She has no interest in a relationship so that's a non-issue, and she has never been sexually active, although if she were it'd probably be nonserious. No, this one can take care of herself as long as there's plenty of meat around.

15. This one just sleeps because I'm too lazy to play her. She's lonely because she doesn't think she's right for the life she's been asked to lead.
