Quick question about notes & display cases

Is a note in a locked display case/pedestal case viewable? Or would it need to be removed from the case to be viewed? [Edit to clarify: That is, is the actual content and body of the note viewable in the same way as that of a note in my hand or on the ground?]

Bookcase and displays are entirely the same. So yes, and objects can be showcased in bookcases.

Oops! You have blown my world wide open by revealing to me that bookcases exist. Thanks!

They are essentially the same objects with a new "view when locked" feature that other containers don't have. You can store objects and notes, but envelopes won't be readable (this might be changed, but it's not currently planned).

I am now hijacking this thread for discussion about books and reordering notes.
I see the 'change order' button in my envelopes, but it seems it's not actually possible to do that yet?

Yeah I guess it needs like a hint to explain it.

Okay, new question:
I'm having trouble figuring out how to roleplay around bookcases. They don't take any glass to build, so I imagine them basically as uncovered shelves... But then in what sense can they be locked and still allow a view of their contents? What is a bookcase lock actually locking?

What is the lock on a raft or a skateboard actually locking?

Imagine the iron has been crafted into something like a screen door if that helps.

They're chains that keep the books under control.

I'm asking partly because I'm trying to figure out whether it would be legitimate for one of my characters to use a bookcase as a display case for non-note objects (in lieu of a wooden display case). Mechanically, I don't see any reason to prefer the display case proper to the bookcase; but in terms of rp I'm not sure.

Lots of little iron chains to keep everything from running away. The display case holds five times as much as the bookcase, so there's your mechanical difference. It's not much in some cases (clothes) but in others the extra space could be useful.
