Seeing as fireworks are a lot of buck, for a smidge of bang, just wanted to clarify some details before they go up in smoke.
I've been in town with the biggest, noisiest, brightest firework, and I could see it from my van. The fellow in the bike, said he couldn't. Is there a random chance if you're in a building/vehicle to not see it?
Ships. Do they count as outside, and so they can be seen across the water? Thinking of using them as a shorthand code for ships that don't have the room for a radio, and other things. It'd be nice to know without wasting them first, how the sight works.
Will I ever be able to use them as a weapon and fire them at people? (Not a real question, but could be really, really funny)

Re: Fireworks, and various novelties
I always assumed you could fire them from a ship, but now I realize I don't actually know...surely the flare at least should be usable for signaling? That's being a big part of their RL purpose.
And I assume people in buildings can't see them? What if one is lit right outside your window?
Fireworks are one of those things a couple of my chars would actually be really interested in but they're pretty expensive and time consuming for casual testing.

I can testify that way back at the omeo party a firework was supposedly lit but I did not see it from my ship.
Not that that's helpful at all.

Fireworks should be visible for people outside, in vehicles in location, in travelling vehicles, in sailing vehicles. Not in any buildings.
If I remember correctly they are also not visible for people travelling by foot and that's because it was harder to get the position for character being "nowhere". It can get fixed.
Please report me any recent situations when fireworks supposedly should have been visible but were not.

Thanks for clearing that up. But just one more question, where are they actually usable from? More specifically, can they be fired from a ship, to signal another ship or the people on shore? Now that that possibility's been brought up I can't get how neat it would be out of my head.

Yes, that's one of the reasons they were introduced.

I can testify that - when that firework went off - my character on the ground in a town around 8 towns away could see it. I was surprised how far.

Don't be.
So 5 + 4 +6 +20 +8.5+...2 for explosive resource? 45.5 days of toil, for one shiny moment, I'd want it to reach far too.
great gold firework (range of 250 units)
PROCEED
Days needed: 5
1700 grams of charcoal
2000 grams of iron
1000 grams of explosive powder
8.5 days work for explosive powder
+
510 grams of iron ore
510 grams of honey
1020 grams of dried dung
4 for charcoal
+ 3600 wood
