Is this like FTO's story book? I really like this idea, especially if it's 100% anonymous.

I don't know FTO so someone else would have to lay out any potential comparisons.

It is anonymous in regards to who the writer is behind the character. It is one reason I stated that users shouldn't use their Cantr info for signing up. Secondly, the author of the stories is not displayed (although I could add that as a feature if anyone is interested in outing themselves). Any 'behind the scenes' information will remain hidden and only used if needed to report violations to Cantr staff.



Another thing I think I want to add is a Q&A for the character pages. That way, people can ask questions that relate to the character, such as things they have been wanting to know.

No, it is for any character as long as the information doesn't break the 4 day rule or any other policy.

I love the whole idea about this, especially for town histories. That relates to the characters who lived there too of course and there's always been so much of that that gets lost IG. Stuffed into an envelope inside an envelope at best, but usually never written down in the first place.

Liking it so far. As a suggestion, why not a public and private setting. So, by default they're private, after 4 days a little notification pops up "Would you like to release this to the public?", or at 10 days. Something to let us write it up as it's happening/happened, before showing the world. Obviously, a "Do not show me this again" as well, to prevent that becoming annoying.

But liking it very much so far. Good to be able to tell the chars stories on a wide basis, and have things written by other players in character to read, when nothing much is happening with mine. And explain some of the more odd things floating about.

I think it’s a really bad idea to publish stories of living chars ours might meet, or already know. The potential for OOC influence is too great, no matter how hard we try to ‘unknow’ it.

Maybe for you. That level is a bit different for everyone, I imagine. I don't try to "unknow" things -- I've had too many characters spawn on the same certain two islands for it to be practical to try to 1984 myself. But choose not to act on any information a character doesn't have? Not necessarily that difficult. One character might be near a radio and hear something that might be of interest to another character, but unless that other character is also near a radio, they're not gonna be doing anything about it.

Also, there are characters who have been alive for a very, very long time. It would be a bit troublesome were nothing be allowed to be said about them, even by other characters who they might have met over their lifetimes that are now long dead.

The building blocks are already in place for that, and it will be added.

If you feel you are unable to keep yourself detached, you are certainly free to not use the site. This is a site for players, not for characters. If there is information/content that violates the 4 day rule, or clear attempts to use it to shape things OOCly, the content will be removed and reported to staff. Secondly, by the logic you presented, players should only be allowed one character, because their others might happen across something that we might not be unable to "unknow".

What is POC?

POC = proof of concept.

Basically it is a prototype run of a bigger overall project. Not to worry though, this is still something I am wanting to complete and have fully functional, it just so happens to serve a bigger purpose

Sorry for the off-topic question, but what happened to the rest of your tools? I was pretty enthusiastic about the calculator because I do that stuff manually all the time.

edit: it asks for spawn date but not for date of death, might be nice to add that for completion
edit2: might be cute to format them like notes... somehow I read stories better when they're on a note in that sea of green

The calculator is being reworked and will be added to this site as well.

I think you are right about it giving a sense of completion. There are a couple reasons I left it out, but those reasons are rather pointless on the larger scale of things so I will be adding it in.

Updated with the following:

• Added death date to character page
• Added ability to edit character
• Added ability to hide character from view
• Added public index of visible characters for people to view (be sure to make your character hidden if you don't want it seen)
