Cantr II Discussion Forum

I just started thinking, it might be fun to cook something in real life using only ingredients that are found in Cantr. Post pictures if you do, or at least list the ingredients used. Who's up for a challenge? I remember once I cooked salmon with asparagus and lemon slices. It would've fit the criteria save for black pepper sprinkled on top.

Someone make a pie from apples and dry flour.

Or stew using only meat, potatoes, and carrots. No liquid of any kind.

Maybe you could... Cook down the meat until there's tons of meat juices, and then use that as the base of a very salty, slimy stew?

The 'no water' thing really destroys a lot of attempts to copy Cantr recipes. Well, that and no salt.

Try steaming rice with just...rice.

Since water and salt are gatherable resources in Cantr much like any vegetables or grains, they are only included in recipes when they are an essential part of the cooking method, such as brining pickles or salting fish. Fats also are not explicitly mentioned, but we must assume they are available for cooking methods. Boiling eggs doesn’t require gathering water, but brewing tea does.

I would like to think our chars also have access to some kind of pepper, though not enough to act as a featured ingredient. If we spelled out the details of every recipe to mirror some OOC equivalent, our chars would be eating raw potatoes or starving.

Well, Seko's post does say only ingredients found in Cantr, rather than just recipes found in cantr... I would imagine this means that stew made from water is allowed, even if its different than Cantr stew (technically)

I just chalk all that up to quirky Cantr physics and enjoy those differences instead of getting hung up on what's "real". Although, the fact that many ingredients are not explicitly included in recipes would make this challenge interesting.

Which is all well and good when you're playing Cantr, but we are talking about using the ingredients in real life, now.

I did, my post was more in reply to computaertist, really.

Though if I'm reading the OP right and we're not restricted to recipes and can use all ingredients in Cantr, water and salt included, there's not much of a challenge here. There actually is a pretty wide variety of raw foods in the game...with some weird omissions, sure, but still plenty to work with.

I don't know if I'm up for this challenge, though... I usually use butter in my cooking.

Yeah, read this. I never said you would have to copy an exact recipe, just use ingredients only found in Cantr, and that includes water and salt. I've been wondering if soda is the same as cooking soda or the other kind of soda.

Nope, Cantr soda is Sodium carbonate. Baking soda is Sodium BIcarbonate. Regular soda is carbonated water with liquid sugar and flavoring. Sodium carbonate is actually really good at getting stains out of coffee pots, and, apparently, smelting aluminum.
