My kid watches a lot of Curious George, both the PBS cartoons and the movies, and the more I watch it, the more it strikes me that Landis Wilder and the Man in the Yellow Hat are incredibly similar in personality. Someone get that man a pet monkey!

I love that cartoon.

Funny I never saw Landis like that. More a Jed on the Hillbillies in personality, but thicker set.

Interesting topic for a thread! I must say that I've never thought of Landis Wilder as the man in the yellow hat, although I do see a few similar qualities. He's a likeable, good-hearted man with a strong, almost rigid sense of right and wrong. And he's a survivor. Through all kinds of adversity and emotional pain he perseveres.

My character and I both have the utmost respect for Landis Wilder. (Even if my character doesn't show it ;) )

I can think of at least one person who could be the monkey :P

Well, my character has somewhat of a skewed view of Mr. Wilder. This is how -she- sees him, and in her world, George is more furious than curious.

I have a good idea who -she- is and my character has definitely changed their impression of her during the time they've known her. Perhaps she can be the next topic :P

the characters who silently or with a simple sentence explain they will be working/harvesting for the next 5 years and proceed to work diligently always remind me of robots. Essential, sorely needed robots but robots nonetheless.

Kadmorr reminds me of Goltas from the anime "Magi". He's huge, and doesn't talk that much... That's pretty much where the similarities end, I think. But maybe not.

I was thinking that one of my characters is or was sort of like Disney's Aladdin. He does things that are illegal but feels like it's justified, and is easy going and loves the ladies.

Fayden and Fadden --> Raistlin and Caramon Majere, for those of you that read Dragonlance. Fadden doesn't strike me as dumb or even-tempered as Caramon, though.

I can't see them as the Majere at all... O_o

It's so fun how radically different we view the same people.

I used to watch that show when I was little and read the books too.
