Help Me Kill My Character(s)

Postby Shaudawn » Wed Mar 11, 2015 4:12 am

Life has reared its ugly head these last months. It seems that my current job will come to an end in August, and I'm up to my eyebrows in work trying to close it all down while scurrying to come up with some kind of new employment. Both the stress and the lack of time have severely impacted my playing to the point where I've contemplated leaving altogether. But I love my characters and I love playing, so I think I'm going to try something different.

On top of my employment worries, I've also been saddened by a number of friends who have left the game altogether, and that's also been a drag on my inspiration. Furthermore, I'm also a bit OCD when it comes to reading every line my characters encounter. For some reason, I have to go through every line before I can even play, and so the actual play time ends up to be a few scant minutes there and here--quantity and quality of gameplay has suffered.

So, it's time to cull my small herd of humans. But I like each of them so much, I just can't decide which one or ones to off. So, my friends, I need your help...your cruel, sadistic, morbid help (but in a fun way  ). If you are up to the challenge, then, before you lies the choice of which character or characters I should kill off. You can choose any or none. You can even change your mind later, provided you do so in the next 15 days.

Let me flesh out the choices, to give you a little something more to go on. I usually don't like to give away my characters to keep the illusion going, and this might out them, but this is the way I'm going to go with it. So be it. Now, if you think that a particular character is worth saving, I welcome a reply as to why (here or PM). On the contrary, if there's one you'd love to see writhe in a horrid death, by all means make your case! If you don't know the character, but think there's too many of that type around and think the world would be a better place without yet another one of them  , vote away! [And, if you secretly hate all my characters, you can choose all seven of them! Or none, if you don't want to. You be the judge.]

Okay, a little more about each character:

  • Shaudawn: My namesake, so it's pretty obvious I play him. He's a town leader with a kind of Native American/Buddhist fusion. I'm not keen on putting him on the chopping block, but he gets no special privilege. He's lost a few people, and he takes every newspawn death or failing personally, so it weighs on him more all the time (particularly with one antagonistic town member). But he's also fairly happy and with a great bunch of townsfolk. He's my most spiritual, and he's quite a storyteller. But is it time for the town to have someone else step up? Even in Cantr, no one lives forever. Cons: he has few (if any) known warts (a paladin), and a good character has at least as many flaws as character assets.
  • Biin Hejj: I've also been open about him. He's a very odd duck, almost literally since he often introduces himself with such birdlike flailing of the arms that he looks like an ostrich having a seizure on a waterbed during an earthquake. He loves to use big words, sometimes speaks like a Shakespearean actor, and will recite something either cryptic or poetic out of the blue. Speaking of blue, he is very depressed these days since he's lost his fiance. She was his one true love, and he'll never get over it, even if he survives this poll. He's also been one people have told me they love to hate. Frankly, I am sometimes one of those people.
  • Three: Speaking of hate, this girl spawned in a town that wasn't very good for her. She left, and instead of living her days as a drama queen has instead made her way to Fu island where she is happily and cheerfully exploring its vast emptiness. Reasons to kill her: mercy. Nearly everyone she's known is dead. But Fu could use some help, and she's reformed her ways. Honest! She is in a good and healthy relationship, so if you spare her, do it for teh luvs! (Did I just doom her with that last sentence? Oh, dear...)
  • Four: This one is downright ugly. Unsettling, even. Just looking at him can give you an uneasy feeling. Think Tyrion Lannister, but without the wit and charm. And money. :| This character isn't mean, exactly, but gets along much better with cows than with actual people. A workaholic, this one never stops working if it can be helped. So, for the miniscule hamlet that is home, that can be an asset. But this character might not remain there anyway. And, he might have an agenda of his own.
  • Five: This guy absolutely hates bugs with a passion. He talks with a strange but stereotypical accent. And, he makes booze. Now, while I like alcohol as much as anybody, this guy doesn't have much more dimension. He has more wit and charm than Four above, but he's still pretty dimensionless. He's nice and helpful, but the town he's in really wouldn't miss him too much, and there's not a lot of opportunity for growth. Sadly, I'm endorsing this guy. I had hopes, but sometimes you get cancelled.
  • Six: Now this guy is a sight! He's a huge ox of a man with great strength, but dumber than a box of rocks. To those that know him, he's kind of a teddy bear that is generous, helpful, and tender. But beneath him is a monster. Shortly after he spawned, a thief came and stole from him. He pursued and caught the culprit, eventually ripping her arm clean off her socket so she bled to death. He was oddly fascinated by how easy it was. Now, do you believe people are good inside and have faith in this beast? Or, should we off him and save the next poor victim because you believe deep down, there's darkness waiting to be unleashed in everyone?
  • Seven: She's quiet. She is working to be a trader, and works a lot. But she hasn't been contributing to the town she's in. It's a busy trading town. Lots of ships, and she managed to snag one. But it's small and unequipped. She doesn't have much. She could either be an active trader, calling the town she's in home port, or she could become...well, nothing special at all. Or, she could be dead. What do you think?

Now, I can't guarantee that I'll actually off the winner (or winners...I'm thinking of maybe killing off three), but I'll seriously take the vote and feedback you've so kindly offered. At least it'll be fun, especially if there's some impassioned reasons as to how deserving a particular character is to disappear into that green oblivion.

Anyway, thanks for helping me out, if you are willing and/or able.

Not Biin and Shaudawn… ;(
We have too few fun characters like them as it is!
Also, I'm really sorry about everything you're going through right now. I hope things start looking up for you soon!

That one is sounding too familiar for my liking, and if I'm right, then NO  Not him! The town most certainly would miss him if it's who I'm thinking...lots and lots they would!

I don't think I know of any of the others though, so would only be going on your descriptions for them.

Noooo....not Shaudawn! :(

I may be a bit selfish on this one though. I'm Olivia.

If I haven't said it before, I do understand. Our town can have a lot of text to get through, too. '~'

The only ones I know (or at least recognize) are Shaudawn, Biin, and #7 there... and I like all of them. So my vote's going to mostly go with the ones I haven't met yet.

Because of the characters of yours that I've met, I really like them, and would be sad to know they were gone. (Even if my character near #7 is unlikely to wake again, and even if I've only been around Shaudawn-the-character for a short time)

"Oh my god! " They all screamed as they read the results. "Someone voted for Shaudawn! Who could be so cruel! "

Sorry, but if you're that ocd about reading every line the place he's in is definitely going to affect the time you've got left for rp. Also, the position he's in and your situation could just account for yet another sleepy key holder.

Don't kill cow guy. I like cows.

I like Shaudawn and Biin. Not sure if I've met the others, but I know some guy who herds cows and hope it's not that one. I'm sure if Biin would die, he would do it in a flamboyant way that would be interesting to watch, but then he would be gone. I'd rather he didn't. And Shaudawn has always been kind to the one character of mine who visits the town.

I voted for the ones whose stories and narratives seem, to me, to be coming to a natural end.

Oh noo don't kill Biin he's one of my favorite characters in all of cantr and everyone else in Zuzi is sleepy =( my character is already finding it hard to stay there with all the memories of his friends who are all dead now, it's getting too sad... if Biin dies too, and no one's even over Blue yet... Biin is the only one on your list I can say for sure I've met but.. so many good characters with real personalities are vanishing.. in a world full of people sleeping and only waking up to grunt a few words and work on a project, we need MORE characters like Biin, not less!

There should be a Biin in every town, in my opinion, he's so awesome and I love the way he talks, it's thought-out and fun, it's such a nice change from the characters who have nothing to say or if they do it's "lol you're so stupid old man hahaha" and "what can I do to buy a hammer around here?" The live in this game is dwindling fast, and every life-filled character that gets killed off and leaves behind a quiet town just makes it more obvious.. I think this year I've lost almost every wakeful character that my characters were close to, very few of them have any reason to live except for a bunch of quiet sleepy people who insist they don't kill themselves, but never get up to play with my characters or spend time talking to them.. I'd rather kill off the newspawn thieves who do nothing but throw around spammy chat-room insults, can't we just do that instead? I love Biin =( and I don't think I have one character left who hasn't tragically lost the love of their life, I just never saw that as a reason to kill of characters when these super old guys that make my 90-year-old characters look like downy fledglings, are somehow ALWAYS getting new girlfriends.. so it's not like there's absolutely no hope, and if anyone can find love again I think Biin can, even when he's sad he's so nice and sweet, and he says funny charming things. Just my opinion. But seriously, I can't see Zuzi being any fun at all anymore without Biin, everyone's so quiet...

Alright. I want to thank those of you who partook in my little poll...especially you sickos who took the time to vote every single one of my characters of the island(s)! Some of you are a morbid bunch!

Again, even though I asked for this poll, that doesn't mean that there are winners and losers among my complete cast of candidates. And it doesn't necessarily mean that a death or more will come out of this.

A while ago, one of my characters met another character who constantly flipped a coin to make a decision. When asked why, he said that just flipping the coin and seeing the outcome was sometimes enough to get his subconscious kicked so that he could tell where his heart truly lay. Well, I guess that was the intent of my little poll (and enough to give some of you CRB purists out there chest pains). I assure you, no plots were harmed in the casting of this poll--no secrets revealed--no events anywhere near four days old. Maybe some might pass into that green history. Maybe not.

Oh, and my original comments about having to read every comment when I log on wasn't a complaint. It's just an unfortunate quirk I need to overcome and something of an explanation as to why I might only have my character say one or two lines. I'm usually checking them in between coming and going, so that's about all I can do--more apologetics than rant.

Finally (I'll shut up after) I'm humbled by the number of people who actually like Biin. I was under this impression that he was more annoying. Truth is, he is a fun clown to play, and believe it or not, I don't have a thesaurus with me when he goes nuts with the vocabulary.

Anywho... thanks for helping me. I hope you all have happy, fun, productive characters yourselves. May Real Life be kind to each and every one of you. And--most of all--have fun!
