Character diets and cooking thread

I started thinking about if characters are quick to catch up on trends or if they keep eating the same old things they always have.
One of my characters was given some spaghetti in tomato sauce, which she ate, but beyond that none of my characters have eaten or cooked any pasta dishes or made olive oil. This character pretty much never eats raw foods. She would probably rather go hungry than eat a raw potato. Her favorite food is pizza but she hasn't had it in years.
One of my characters recently set up a project for shawarma but has never eaten it yet. Recently she's been eating saag aloo. She also likes sushi.
One of my characters has often set up projects for cooking rack of lamb but I don't remember if she's ever actually eaten it. She was also given barbeque sauce but I don't think she ever ate it. I think she may have eaten mint jelly at some point. She often goes up to ten days without eating, then eats a whole bunch at once. She hasn't eaten raw food in probably decades. I think most often she eats things like kebabs and dried cod.
I remember once one of my now dead characters was given a complicated meal that included a bit of lemon juice. I think that was back when lemon juice was still new.
One of my characters has been eating a lot of gumbo lately. His favorite meal is sushi, but hasn't had that in years.
One of my Finnish characters has been eating saag aloo for a really long time. He finds it very handy to cook. In the past he used to eat smoked meat but not recently. He has pickles as a backup.
Over all, very few of my characters eat raw foods.

I only have one character with a specific diet. She doesn't eat veggies or really anything from the ground. Carnivore all the way with the exception of bread and stew.

I have one character who has lived almost all of his life on cooked meat because he doesn't like fish and that's the only other food consistently around. The other three have pretty much only ever eaten things made from meat, carrots and potatoes (and usually just go for the veg raw), either through lack of access to alternatives or lack of interest in alternatives, though one of those now suddenly has access to a lot of alternatives and is likely to make use of them in time.
In terms of healing foods things have been a bit more varied: one was given some ice cream, two have eaten onions, most have tried milk, one has eaten a whole load of tomatoes, one has eaten boiled eggs a couple of times and one had a little honey. In all cases except the characters eating onions that was either something they already had on them from hunting, something given by someone experimenting with cooking or something given to them by people who saw they were injured.

Most of my chars develop some food snobbery once they reach a certain level of comfort in their lives. Several of them won't eat uncooked foods, and one or two complain a bit when they have to eat "standard fare" like plain old cooked meat unless it's paired with some other food. One char still eats raw potatoes or potato chips and only rarely some type of cooked meat even at age 100+. I haven't had a vegetarian char in a long time.
I only have a few chars with the means to make really fancy stuff and they don't often have time to cook. So, I've been slow to get any chars trying new recipes. A few chars of mine have been able to try new dishes that others prepared, though.

Most of my chars are expert cooks, including my favourite char, for whom cooking is a joy. She just loves feeding people and is always after new recipes. Unfortunately, lack of ingredients is a bar to her trying things like pasta etc but that should be sorted out shortly... She'd never eat raw foods and wouldn't let her loved ones, either.
My other cook has been very lucky and she's made gourmet pasta and noodles as soon as the recipes were made available and has loads of olive oil at her disposal. Another one lives next to olives so it won't take her long to get her hands on them. Yet another is (expertly) collecting some as I type. He loves cooking, too.
I think having older chars mean that they have reached a certain comfort/wealth level as SumBum mentioned, and most of them would turn their noses up at basic foods... except for one, who'd eat anything so long as it was the most efficient of whatever is available.

I have to say my characters mainly focus on the easiest most efficient means to keep them alive. This is why my travelling characters are crazy about salted meat. Others seem to get by on potato chips or whatever is readily available. Even my character that likes to cook seems to prefer the cheap and effective foods.

That's why my one vegetarian char gave it up. lol Wanted to travel and could only take what he could hold. Raw carrots wouldn't cut it.

That certainly would be an issue. The salting barrel veggies aren't near as efficient as the meat products. Not being able to build drying racks on ships also hampers.
Not sure what I would do with a vegetarian on a boat. Would have to stockpile dung to use with the deck grill but still would involve more than that salting barrel.

Most of my chars usually eat whatever they find. Few of them dislike fish and one is vegeterian, she was keen to cooking aspic in her carnivore times . Many are good cooks and I want to try risotto. Unfortunately I couldn't be able until now.

Most of my characters don't really have food preferences. I have one carnivore who will also eat bread but only if there's no meat around or meat to be cooked. Another one has texture issues with certain foods, but that hasn't come up in a while. Or I've been forgetting. Anyway.
