Having a source of iron makes rude?

I have been thinking.... Is it so that mostly if a location has hematite or coal or limestone, the people sitting on the "goldmine" are being.. hmm, full of themselves and rude? Everyone wants to keep the resources to themselves, forgetting that you need to trade if you want the other resources needed for iron/steel. Also, only way of a person outside a community has for getting iron is graverobbing, since iron is so rare that no one is desperate enough to trade it. Only place I have seen really working is Pok southern mountains and um which part was it? ...Too lazy to check. Anywayz, where Seko is. He's the only one of my characters that has iron. Think about that, a village idiot with iron!!! The other haven't probably even seen iron in their puny little lives.
The worst part is Seatown forest. They have coal AND hematite, but lo and behold, no limestone. Recently someone arrived there with a load of lime.. and still the production hasn't started. I couldn't bother to keep my char there any longer. (Oops, forgot to return ID... 8-O heheh.. Sorry, I'll drop it off somewhere...)

Well, think about it. Those commodities are worth a lot in Cantr, because they're extremely useful. If you think about real life, having a car means a lot, having a house means a lot, having money means a lot - to everyone. Society takes it that if you don't have money, you don't belong, because you're poor, and no one is going to just give you some. They want something in return. Their money is worth something to them, and they want something worth more than it for trade.
This goes for those sitting on a "Goldmine" as you so put it. They would trade it, if they could get something better. Otherwise, you can take your leave.
This being a Society Simulator, I find what they're all doing to be very accurate to real life. Expect to see it a lot.

It's strategic. There are tons of people in real life who do the same thing.

Hmm....many of my characters are sitting on nice piles of iron that people allowed them to collect...
and Seatown Forest was happy to trade iron to my character when she asked
Iron doesn't seem that rare to me; some of my characters would happily trade thiers if someone offered something they wanted for it

Yeah, ive got a few characters with nice stock of iron and steel, gladly trade if i got what i wanted for it, and they do, ask Trage my blackrock character trades iron ore with his and his chars friends all the time for food and healing foods.

Yeah, one of my chars has a few kilos of iron from the old days of the bountiful drills and he wants to trade it, its just that everyone wants to make idiotic trades, like grain and rice, things he doesn't need.

Seatown Forest traded Iron? Is this under the new management? When I last had a character there they were ridiculously repressive about that (I know it was a strategy, but it was alo a nuisance).
On the K island I think Iron is traded fairly often. Elsewhere anyone who could offer iron just sends a work party for what they need and pays them nothing...
The idea with trading iron is you either trade for a lot of something like food that you would have to travel a little for, of for a huge amount of something you wouldn't have to travel for (wood in KF, say) or for a little of something even more valuble and remote, like diamonds or rubber.
But a lot of people think 'only trade for better resources' and will starve instead of trade iron for food...

Well, I can speak for Seatown Forest in that they haven't discovered out to make iron yet since the change. James Whitmore is working very hard on finding out. He only has something like 200 grams of iron left from his stored back before the change. But now since some people have been delivering limestone to him and his clothing business is semi-successful, he is working to build up a metalworking business again.
I do know that Seatown Forest did or still has a huge stores of iron from back before the change. But that iron wasset aside in case of an emergency since the Forest may have coal and hematite they still don't have regular access to limestone yet.

Yeah, there is also the matter of idiots who think potatos in a place with potatos are a reasonable offer for imported wood... I wish I had a character who did both trading and pedantic speaking. It would be so much fun explaining why that trade is worthless.
It could be good RP of not understanding resource values and trade concepts, but I don't think it is. Seems more like stupidity combined with sense of entitlement to advanced items.

How is it worthless? Sure the person could just freely farm potatoes if they wanted ut then they would have to spend time doing that. In Cantr time is also a very valuable resource. I have a char who trades heavily in the Siom area and with the wood he trades it feeds a surrounding area almost exclusively (dozens of people). The trade rate allows for a little time profit on the product for the community (ie 1 days effort of wood trades for slightly more than one days effort for potatoes).
Time is probably the most precious commodity of all in Cantr.

Iron isn't all that valuable because of real-world association though. Iron is valuable because so much advancement hinges on your having iron in the game. I've got some chars who would kill for Iron, and others who don't really see the point. The value is entirely based on the characters need/perception

I'd like to see resources gradually diminish from overuse, THEN the killing for iron and such can really begin.

He is right, the forest needs the food and we bring it to them in exchange for commodites that we need. It is all about exchanging what both people need and want. Yes Iron is a somewhat more valuable resource than most, but that is why you trade a more substantial amount of the lesser resource for the greater one.

=)) No one asked.
Anyways, though some of my characters were highly disappointed *especially one who climbed all the way to the Knatr Mts after Lad didn't let him at LFN and was just short of getting their before iron became hematite* when the change was made.
As mentioned before, of course having rare resources is going naturally make people more selfish, arrogant and oppressive. Do my characters agree with that, most of them, no.
It does humor me though when spawnlings come out of the ground and ask, "can i have some steel/iron?" as has been mentioned many times before.
None of my characters currently own machines that make steel nor iron, though most of them do have access to it. Half of mine have raw iron dug up a few years ago, and one has made a small amount using a primmie smelting furnace.

Oh please lighten up as I was refering to what you literally said. =P
I'm not stopping him from talking, and if I want to portray myself as an evil, rude and monsterous iron hogger, please let it be. It is only incriminating myself.... But, I'm not the one making up false quotes that incriminate me like Trage does without the slightest care of how rude I have found over the last few months it is to myself, when may I repeat, it is completely made up. Yet, after once privately asking him to take it down, he refused.
For the record I never said I wanted to burn in hell. I find that offensive to my character and uncalled for, and I ask you again to change it.
