Question concerning playing in a foreign language.

I am in preparation of playing my first character in a non native language. My question is. Is is possible that the interface be in English so basically everything I see is just like playing in English except the events page is in the foreign language? My main concern is project. If I dont know what small bone shaft, it is going to be hard for me to make a hammer without doing a lot of translating making sure I make a bone shaft and not a wood shaft and wasting time. Since I play on my phone often its nearly impossible for me to do so much translating but I'm going to give it a try. Basically what I'm looking at is basically an English player basically spawn in French zone or Spanish Zone?

The build menu has the English terms in parenthesis, so you can see them and use them as search terms. You only run into trouble when the projects are on the activity page, or the finished items in inventory. Maybe google translate would help? The interface can't be set to English if the character is of another language, the interface is always in the language of the character.

Thanks, that sounds like it will work. I was just a bit concerned about when I play on my phone and difficult to use a translator.

Just don't do what I constantly do, and look for resources, etc in English, and wonder where that huge pile of sugar/wood/stone etc has gone.

You'll get used real soon, bnlphan, and depending on the language you're going to spawn in, some things might not even be translated, so that's a plus

And Chroma just made me feel better, now the scarce times I play in my own mother tongue I usually think that I don't have this or that tool because I keep on searching the English names in my inventory.

Between this thread and the french character thread, it's inspiring me to try a french character. I just need to make sure I have that kind of time, to put in that kind of effort. Put those 8 years of schooling to use. Anyone who RPs with me knows I have a hard enough time spelling in english though (as my fingers race across the keyboard faster than my brain), it would be bad, so bad in french, well, the fingers wouldn't be moving so fast though.

Sounds like they need the help. Heard there's only 8 french charries so I'm going to try. Give it a shot ManyVoices. If its too bad we can hit other in the head with a rock and become mutes.

Only eight? ...players or characters? Either way, wow.
The French zone might be getting an influx of deaf-mutes soon then...all that inbreeding I guess.

I need back-up. I just spawned in a place with an old lady and a 70 yr old man. I probably just interrupted some lovely couple with some newspawn french guy who can barely speak the language. I think this is going to be painful when they wake.

Neither of them are even working on anything ... oh, don't be sleepers! This really is going to be painful.

Is it acceptable to emote in English if your French doesn't extend past basic conversational stuff? Or is better to just not emote at all or type whatever the French version of *smiles* is a lot?

When my Spanish character is in the presence of English characters I emote in English, but when I'm just talking to other Spanish characters I emote in Spanish. However, I would consider it acceptable to emote in English if necessary. It seems to be the Cantr universal language, though this wiki page helps as well for emotes:
http://wiki.cantr.net/index.php/Int_emotes and it would be good practice to emote in the other language anyway.

I have a character that is in a different language region via landing there on a boat. She has learned some of their language. I emote in English and speak in their language so they can understand me.

When I first spawned my Spanish character, I emoted in both English and Spanish because I was still in the Dora phase of learning Spanish. I used Goonslate a /lot/ (still do sometimes) and I know that can mess stuff up, so I did it in English first so people might have understood. Lol
I'm nowhere near confident enough with my French to spawn a French charrie.

Yeah, I'm quickly learning that I've been away from French for far too long, and my sleepers haven't even woke yet to try a conversation. That's just trying to figure out what all the objects are.
