One of my characters recently had an argument regarding certain aspects of the world. Points involved:
1) The existance of the sun
2) The existance of rain
3) The existance of water (my character hasn't seen it yet)
4) The nature of the Sea (is it water?)
My character came down on the negative side of all these issues, based on his perception. I though it a telling point when I asked my opponent what the position of the sun was.
Am I insane?

Ideally, no.
I've had characters claim people come from spawn plants, that the moon was orange, etc.
I like playing dumb though, like characters on K-island dismissing the name of a city because it doens't start with K and therefore couldn't possibly exist.
I'd be on your side, Industriallist, but I see both sides. We assume there's a sun and stuff because they're directly observable in real life no matter where you are (outside)
but not knowing what the sea is is reasonable if your char's never seen one.

I saw the sea. I'm standing right next to it in fact. But there doesn't seem to be any sign of water in the area...

http://www.cantr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2152&start=0&sid=87e8f0cc0e5c6378030ae4b300c7e915 is a topic that this reminds me of. In the past most of my char's were like yours, playing dumb and ignorant. But, sometimes the roleplay is reasonably assuming, and hence my char's play along.

You totally missed my point. It isn't a matter of stupid or clueless, its a question of worldview. I see no evidence anywhere that the sea is water, and haven't ever seen rain on the events list (although I have heard that may change). So when people refer to things that don't actually show any signs of existance my characters (or some of them) argue.

I'm not saying they're the same thing, I'm just pointing out they are similar. Playing a char ignorant of rain, sun, etc in cantr world was one way-and the other was playing them very "knowledgable" is a way of rping sun, rain, etc.
Just the parallels,

It would be a little too heavy-handed and contrary to the "emergent behavior" Cantr ideology, but we could counter all these issues by writing up some consensus statement on the nature of the Cantr world.

Sorry, but that was me.
I'm new to roleplaying and I suppose I'm not very good at it yet. I stopped talking once I realised that I might be doing something wrong.
But, I HAVE seen other people roleplaying such things as children and mead.
Hmm... It seems like there is a fine line to tread.

If anyone was talking about children near any of my characters, I'd admonish them OOC. The same goes for mead, except that as it wouldn't change the game in any major way, I might let it slide.

Well last time I was in Siom, there were babies coming out of everything =))
And I think the person said on the forums they asked the P.D. if it was ok...
I admit, thats the first time I heard the verb admonish. =O
Edit: Pardon, Mav's beat me to posting =P

Yes, there are children in Siom. And at least another on the way elsewhere. Some characters wish to rp this, and as it is a natural occurance to have children (ok, in rl, not in Cantr yet), and it was something thought to be being implemented into the game months ago, it has been allowed. Some players and characters are sick of waiting. I don't see the harm in it. I can't imagine keeping up the pretense for 400 days, until a real character can be born of this, but it has made for some fun rp. I wish there was some way to do it differently, but that doesn't seem to be possible for a long time into the future.

I do not see the harm in RPING babies and children...
People can rp being anything from Dog riding Gnomes to fuzzy bunnies..
Why not Pretend to have kids..
It was approved and thats all that matters.

Dog riding gnomes was either a CR breach or an RPed mutual hallucination. Cantr has neither dogs nor gnomes, and since they do actually disagree with the game mechanics, they can't just be RP. It's like expecting someone to die when you drop 10000g of stone and say *drops 10kg of stone from the top of the town hall onto X's head*
Actually, I would think the same thing about RPing children that don't exist... What if someone tries to steal the child or something? No game rules to control it.
