Movie References

Historical Situation #1:
Some person acquires said item. Said item is then named "Squishy" and the character says "I will name you Squishy and you will be my Squishy"
Historical Situation #2:
Some person acquires said item. Said item is then precious to the said character. Said character says "My preeeeccciiiouuuussss... you can't have my prrreeeccciiiooouuusss"
Historical Situation #3:
Some person leaves said location. Said person says "I'll be bach!"
-----
I've seen all three of these happen, and they're annoying. They all come from movies in real life - Would it be considdered a CR breach to make such comments? Or will I have to put up with it?

They are too small breaches to consider a problem. If we would start arguing about those, we really become some kind of police-state, which is not fun

...
I agree, though, good roleplay can do without

In bold.
One of my chars was named Squishy, well given that name by another person. Star, in Kirrin.
And Historical Situation #2 was quite annoying, and about the curses, and the char. Ahh, some people.

Well if someone is named Squishy or Gandorf or whatever, I really don't care. But when people start role playing with Movie References... ick...
The third one doesn't bother me, honestly. People say that. But the first two, blah.

Come on now. You really are petty. If they want to RP a character concept from a movie then tough. Live with it or deal with it. Who died and made you god of right and wrong way to RP. Some of you people are so closed minded. I'm shocked.

Take it easy, g1asswa1ker.

No one declared themselves god of anything. No one prohibited rping after movie references.
A question was asked if that was within the CR, Jos answered that it was too little of a problem to deal with it officially.
Some people still find it annoying, and that's ok. Has nothing to do with being close-minded, it's just a question of preference.
I personally have seen quite intriguing references to movies/books/rl persons in Cantr, as well as some very unoriginal and boring ones.
Being shocked about people asking about those references appears to be a little exaggerated to me.

Woah now. I was merely asking... geez
I prefer to not see it, and I will have to put up with it, of course, because no one's going to stop it, are they? In any case, interesting ones, as long as they're not so OBVIOUS, I can handle. Like, I've seen a guy and girl RP the scene of Titanic, on a boat. Honestly, I didn't care about that. But when you get into crazed things like the Lord of the Rings catchphrases and Nemo's catchphrases... it just gets annoying... Someone might find their possession to be precious to them, but must they really make it so obvious of what they're referring to by going "Myyyy prrreccciiiooouuusss". Blah.
It's my opinion.

you did.
RPing is about using your imagination, not copping clever quotes/whole characters from other sources.

I'm sorry I went off. I'm just getting tired of seeing people criticize others for how they play their characters. It might be an annoyance.

Everyone likes and dislikes things about others, including how people Role Play. I'm sure there's something that bothers you when people Role Play, correct?
Just, this thing not only bothers me, but to me, it breaks the CR - Because, it's using an OOC reference IC. It's just like seeing that Dog riding Gnome. What's that, eh? IC, there's no Dogs or Gnomes, so it SHOULD make no sense. But others understand it, and act on it. This is the same occourance, sort of. People say something about a movie phrase, and others act on it. But me, I can't ignore it, because I don't want to see OOC things IC, it's just my personal preference.
Yours, obviously, is different than mine. And that makes us all unique. (Man that sounds corny...)
So, don't worry about it Glass.

Some of my character and building names are obscure Tolkien references or Quenya phrases. Nobody minds as long as the names are obscure enough that no other characters have them.
However, isn't this (even if only slightly) a CR breach of sorts? It is, in a way, faster-than-light (my term for a speed greater than the fastest possible transfer of information) communication if two characters in widely separated places spawn with knowledge of the same language. Some clans use Tolkien languages, notably the Sayajin and the Nosse (bah, accent, whatever). If Taowyn (assuming he knows Quenya) goes over to Brunoi Forest and hears the Sayajin saying something in Quenya or sees a note in Quenya, is he supposed to pretend not to be able to understand, or should he be able to understand?

Only a few words of the Nossé's charter are in Elvish; none of the actual Nossélings have ever used any other Quenya words to my knowledge. For all they know it was just a quirk of El Adan's.
Yeah, I use some Tolkienisms; i'm not going to lie. Two relatively obscure Tolkien names, a few translated Elvish names (El Adan, Nione). Most of those were a while ago, though.
But I've never called anyone Rand al'Thor or Justin Timberlake.
both are names I've seen in game.
