What if....

A thread for speculation about far-flung what ifs. This is not a place to find out if your character will die if they do this or that. Instead, it's for really out-there scenarios that can't occur in game.

Characters are immortal and only need food to survive. What if it was suddenly revealed that Cantr characters were energy vampires, sucking life out of a sub-species of people that were 19 and under? What if we suddenly knew what life was like before age 20, and that life was horrible? These people kept in a natural bondage where we feed off their life until they simply whither away and die, crawling out of the dirt after death and becoming a 20 year old immortal? What if only a small fraction of these people actually became 20 year-old immortal cantrians, the rest simply falling like dead leaves off a tree? How would your characters deal with this knowledge? Could they continue living?

Each time you move your mouse over the smiling face and you don't create another char, a younger-than-19-cantrian dies forever...

I think some of my chars would be too shocked and they'd feel too guilty. Some of them to the point to kill themselves. Other wouldn't mind it so much, and, well, a couple would even enjoy it...

creepy.. don't know really how they would handle this.. I'm not sure I could want to continue to play.

I'm sure there is 1 that would thrive on the knowledge.. the others would be iffy...1 I am sure would give his life in hopes that it would save another.

Oef... That'd change things! Some of my chars would just pretend not to know, some wouldn't really care... Probably two or three would not want to live anymore although I have no idea if they'd dare to kill themselves.

What if...

Roads and paths were not really roads and paths, but more like wormholes connecting distinct points in space?

Imagine for a moment that when you stepped onto a "road," suddenly you were unable to interact physically with other people in any way except speaking or attacking. You could not touch them, or hand them an object, or drag them. You could do no work whatsoever, as your hands would effectively be rendered useless for any purpose other than violence. Whoever created these wormholes had an odd sense of humor, or an extremely macabre one.

Now, imagine that your pedestrian transit through the wormhole was dependent on your lifeforce. As long as you are alive, you continue along at a standard pace. The moment you die, the instant your lifeforce winks out, no matter how "far" you have progressed toward your destination your corporeal body and all of your belongings are instantly teleported back to your place of origin. The wormholes depend on your lifeforce to function; possibly feeding off of it. Again, we must wonder about their creators.

Wormholes are strange exceptions to natural law, but not entirely divorced from it. Anything humans can understand, they may be able to overcome through ingenuity or brute force. So now let us imagine that we could create vessels... vehicles of sorts, if you will... with hyperspace fields around them that would cancel out some (though not all) of the strange, eerie properties of our wormholes. People inside vehicles together could interact with each other more normally, work on projects, and hand things to others outside the vessel. But no one in the wormhole with them traveling on foot would be able to hand the things back. Transfer of physical objects is one way only -- unless the object is a weapon, in which case you may attack and be attacked as normal. If you died in your vehicle, it would continue on to your destination with no change in speed or direction, its hyperspace field negating the transport of your body back to your origination point.

Imagine that specific quantities of sand, oil and stone, applied and worked only at the entrance to the wormhole (but never within it), could increase the speed of all transit through it, as if constructing a larger gateway at one end made the wormhole more effective.

Now imagine that everyone continues to refer to these strange conduits as "paths" or "roads," despite their obviously deviant and un-roadlike properties.

The points that these roads connect are more like nodes than places. They can be entered and exited only via wormhole, never from any other direction or by any other means. People imagine that these nodes share the same sky, the same air, the same properties, but in fact they may actually exist on different worlds, in different dimensions, in alternate universes.

That's crazy... I 'll never see Cantr roads the same ever again.

I have a feeling that this topic is going to change my entire view of Cantr. I'm not sure if I like it xD

The characters in one location ALWAYS stand in order by age, whether they mean to or not, and their surroundings change and adapt to what they're doing. Thus at hour 1 in Snickington (a twn of 3) there's a potato field next to a smelting furnace next to a chair, and in hour three there's a forest next to the smelting furnace next to the new under-construction town hall. People who roleplay standing next to someone else who is not right next to them in the age line are delusional and hallucinating.

What if characters could only communicate in song like in that one Buffy episode? What would they sing? (doubt I'll get any original songs posted here, but can't hurt to try).

One of my chars would sing with this melody:

Unfortunately I think a lot of music we would hear would be of the bubble gum Top 40 variety.

"Oh, baby, I love you so much, come over here so I can whisper in your ear *giggle*" [Any Teen Diva]

"Let's all go for a swim, yeah!" [Spring Break Dance Remix]

"You broke my heeeaaart... when yours broke dooowwwn. I miss you and I'll see you in heaven!" [Bon Jovi/Eric Clapton Collaboration]

"I pimped my ride but she took it in stride, cruisin' the highway lookin' bona fide." [Kris Kross]

"Stop (stop) Stop (stop) Stealing My Swag" [Newspawn EP - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDPUWKYXagk]

Also any Taylor Swift song would probably do.

This one would be heard all the time (Wake up little Susie - Everly Brothers, a little adapted):

'Wake up, little Susie, wake up
Wake up, little Susie, wake up
We’ve both been sound asleep, wake up, little Susie, and weep
The days are passing, we're out of food, and we’re in trouble deep
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, we gotta go home.'

What if it were possible to track down and kill the radio spammers and ass holes? Perhaps a device that can pin point the origin of any radio signal and display it in a built-in map. Radio security in the palm of your hand!

That would be so super awesome. Although I would go for something not quite as precise.

What if we our radios are actually televisions but no one has had an idea to put screen on it (and vice versa no speaker has had an idea to plug camera in to it)?
