Why was the world of Cantr rotated 90 degrees?

Postby sillysavage1 » Sun Aug 04, 2013 9:56 am

I'm sure this question has been asked numerous times but I'm asking again as I haven't found any satisfactory answers to it. Just to be specific in my questioning...Why is North to the right of the page instead to the top of it.

As far as I heard, it was some sort of a bug or an oversight.

In mathematics the positive axes are up and right.
In computer graphics the positive axes are right and down.

When designing the Cantr map those systems have somehow been mixed up, resulting in the current situation. It has never been corrected, so now it is a Cantr feature.

It's a Cantr feature I wouldn't like to see changed. I know it probably causes more confusion and complication than anything else I know of, but I actually love it. 8)

You know, I'm amazed that I've never thought to ask this, or have seen anyone else for that matter. I just assumed it was some sort of Polish thing.

Huh, I assumed it was a Cantr thing, done deliberately to distance the world of Cantr from the real world. There's a good example of turning a bug into a feature, I suppose!

North isn't necessarily up, though, although as most cultures do consider it to be the same as up, it is seen as being up.

This map is no more or less accurate than a map with Europe at the top -

So did I, and I love Cantr for it. It gives me the feeling of being in a different world every time I have to figure out where the roads lead.
