Revolutionary cooking system

Postby SekoETC » Sat Jul 27, 2013 2:11 pm

This might be too difficult to program, so I'm posting this here instead of suggestions.

There would be foods that can take a variety of ingredients, and the percentage of each resource would be recorded in a separate table that was linked to objects, so people could always check what they were eating. Since we were dealing with percentages, those wouldn't change even if the food was partially eaten. These custom foods wouldn't merge with other foods with the same name if they had a different ratio of ingredients, so the piles in the inventory would remain separate.

Each food uses a base that consists of one or more mandatory ingredients which have a minimum and maximum percentage out of the whole weight, plus optional ingredients, which have a maximum percentage of the whole weight. For example, most foods can include salt, but the maximum percentage in most cases is 1 %. I was thinking it's easier if it doesn't allow starting the project if the allocated value for some resource exceeds the maximum percentage. Another option would be to make the food cause tiredness if some resource exceeds maximum percentage, and have a hard limit that can't be exceeded.

The more ingredients a food includes, the more efficient it will be. If some ingredients have healing values, they will be transfered to the resulting food.

Tertiary ingredients can be given such a small max percentage that they won't fill the requirement of an optional ingredient on their own.

Okay, this is literally the coolest thing that I have seen suggested (or, partially suggested, I guess). A system like this would add local culture to so many dishes! People might travel to a place because they make the best fish and rice salad or whatever, because they have a certain ingredient readily available to them. This gives chef RPers sooo much more room to work with; I can think of one character in particular that would have a field day.

If this could be implemented, I would die of happiness (and them revive myself so I can play more cantr)!

Hoooo yeah. I totally like this idea and definitely would have a character have a field day too. Landis would go nuts over all the food he could make and the ingredients. XD shit- you found a way to make him fat. LOL

Everyone that knows Landis, has to think of Landis when reading this, right? xD
Anyway, I think this would go very well together with the suggestion about showing the materials used to make something. There was some suggestion about that, saying that if you make a sword with a bone hilt it'd have another name then when you'd make it with a wooden hilt. I guess that's the same kind of coding.
Don't remember where I was - I realized life was a game - The more seriously I took things - The harder the rules became
