How do you manage to get an evil group put together?

Okay, so for example.. You want to get a pirate crew out together... But how do you manage to get a crew? Because I mean if you just walk into town and say, "hey guys, I'm a pirate! And I want you to be a pirate with me so we can steal things together!" I mean you just can't do that, or else you will obviously end up in jail. So how do you do it? Also, say your character wants to start fresh make a town with harsh laws, but how do you find people that agree with you to make these laws? Basically, if you have a bad guy, how do you recruit more bad guys without ending up in jail?

You could always go to very remote places with only one person in the area. If they're struggling just to live, that may be motivation enough to join.

By the way, I'm loving all of these posts you're making!

I was always just straight up and asked people who wouldn't immediately report me. Mostly young characters who didn't have anything to do. It's kinda gamey - but if you had no choice at the beginning of a chars life there wasn't much else you could do. People tend to want to play evil characters and usually jump on board for whatever reason.

I was kinda like that in Wood Camp or whatever I renamed the town as. Twas a savage place so I made a savage town.

Suicide! :P

To become a pirate at first. You need a ship. Preferably a fast ship. You can steal it. You can Buy it. You can build it. As long as the people don't get the idea you are going to be a pirate. They'll exterminate you for good.
It was a sunny day at the town when my character which had alcohol problems, problems with town leader and he had just kind of lost his love and he was being humiliated.
In a one second. He decided to become a pirate. He looted the city's kitchen and public storage for valuables, medicines and food.
Then he ran to the docks. Locked them up and took a ship to escape. Escape was successful.
Always, the most critic situation when pirating is the undocking. A pirate ship is most vulnerable by that time.
The escape happened in a matter of seconds.
Then he began sailing to south along the coast and looking for crew. He stopped once in a while at remote locations. He got lucky at one locations. He found two relatively young men, without weapons or surprises they could use to betray me.
So we began looting the coastal cities using the 'Hit and run' - tactic.
There's always the danger they would stay in the town, your crew. Betray you. Telling everything about you. Luckily, that has not happened. Yet to me.

Maybe if you're in jail with a few others, and there isn't always a guard of some sort around, you could make a pact with them?

As a captain, never leave anyone alone on a ship. If there are at least two people, they are unlikely to plot to steal the ship, but if there's only one, there's nothing stopping them from stealing. The captain should always be the last to leave.

I have wondered the same thing a lot too. I was trying to think of how to kind of slow play it with one of my characters, but I just can't get the idea to work. >.< Oh well, the character(s) aren't exactly EVIL. Just ambitious, at least now, but not in the honest working way.

Another thing to do, which I've been doing lately and seems to attract people, is rather than an evil char, try playing a slightly bad one, not evil but a slightly faulty moral compass that kind of thing.
