Tips for RP'ing

I admit I am a quiet person in real life. So interacting my characters with others is sometimes difficult for me. I tend to lean towards I guess simming is what it is called...side of the game. More interested in working on projects and creating things instead playing a character. I'm sure there are a lot of characters that don't like my characters because they don't speak they just work and only speak when they need something. Just as I have done to people in real life at times. I was wondering if anyone had tips or tricks to help my characters adjust a bit more. Any suggestions appreciated.

Well, for me at least. When i begin roleplaying. I tend to clear my head from all the other thoughts and separate myself from my characters.
You got to be the character you are playing. Feel, what he/she feels and act as his/her personality requires.
Though for myself, i don't think personalities too much. They'll form over time. I just let my imagination run wild and free. Cantr II has a limitless possibilities in terms of a roleplay, i think. Whatever you wish to play. It probably can be done. It is the atmosphere and people around my characters that 'make' their personalities.
Mostly, most of the time. It is the casual roleplay. Well, if you are bored to death by that and can't think of a way to ease the pain.
Arrange some drama or a unnecessary scene yourself! That puts some life into the village.
Hah, punch the village leader, steal a bike, call someone names, act like a total weirdo, spread false rumors, play with radio.
Many ways to puff life into people.

A general personality in mind helps when interacting with people.
It's what interests others into talking with your character and getting to know them better, which means eventually friends and when you have friends there is usually drama or fun to get involved in.
Like Rugila was saying, if you want to break the ice, why not do something out of the ordinary?
I had a character once out of the blue, stupidly pick up something really hot and burn his hand. His friends proceeded to slap mud on his hand to make it feel better and my character was just grumpy about it while others laughed. There aren't any mechanics for things like that, so it can be a blessing when you want to be creative and a curse when you can't be.
Try something like that. Slipping and falling, getting bit while trying to pet a wild animal, fainting because your character feels ill, there aren't many limits.

I'm the same way, and I frequently find this game a challenge for that reason... I purposefully made outgoing characters, on the verge of being nosy. This meant that, to be in character, I had to force myself to make my characters speak, even though I, as a player, was feeling shy. It has gotten much easier, but for one thing, I remind myself that PLAYERS don't mind the interruptions, even if their characters do. It's always better to have talking than no talking, even if you don't know or care about the active character.

I'm a very quiet person in real life myself, so my characters are often not very outgoing, nor do I tend to describe their emotions in great detail.

All my chars are like enlarged pieces of me. Blend them all together and it'll be me, I guess. When I RP I just focus very much on what that specific part of me, and switch off all the other parts. That, I guess, is the best tip I could give: Even if a char is partly like you, remember it's -not- you.

(link removed before PD throws a fit over a 4 day rule violation. reposting 4 days from now. there are a few mentions of very recent events as they were good examples of nice RP. while these mentions wouldn't really give anyone any sort of knowledge that would matter the rule is still the rule and as a returning player who use to be quite the troublemaker i'd prefer to not piss anyone off. )
a lengthy blog post of my own experiences. i hope it helps anyone who wants some fresh ideas for role playing.
the best thing you can do is be observant and comment on pretty much anything you can. i do believe i mention that in my post....but right now it's 4:30 AM and i've practically pulled an all nighter playing games and making this blog.
i mean seriously who wants to RP with someone whose only interest is their own RP? i absolutely love it when other characters interact with me either directly or indirectly. there was one guy who RP'd dropping the wood he was carrying because my guy was acting crazy and it surprised him. the cool part is he kinda set himself up for it. he walked out of the woods carrying the wood and said good morning as my guy woke up and started acting funny. then when my character got too crazy he dropped the wood and even RP'd holding his arms up as though he was still carrying the wood as he watched my guy. the mental image of a young man in his twenties absolutely flabbergasted by the sight of another man flipping out made me LOL for the rest of the night.

4 day rule is over. topic bumped. link posted. i hope it helps.
it should be an interesting read for anyone who cares to pry into the lives of another persons characters. i don't much care if people do or don't know my toons anymore. i'm an OG cantrian. out of game circumstances do not alter what i would do in game......with the exception of my guy that i almost had go to Zuzi. i talk about that in my post.

Didn't read all of it (yet) but in your first paragraph you have a slight error. Cantr is not all RP, you can play 15 chars without any RP at all. In basic it's a society simulator game with the option to RP.

Playerslayer,
Very interesting read. i do appreciate it.
Your character 6 Eep as we call him is great I get a lot of enjoyment out of watching your role play with him. I had been meaning to put him in the rp praise thread but hadnt gotten to it. Actually that whole town is great. Quickly becoming one of my favorites for certain.

I'll echo one of the above sentiments and say it can be easy to take a piece of your personality then exaggerate it into its own. Cantr gives you the opportunity to make things a bit more exaggerated than you might want them in real life.
I also have a couple experimental characters that have some pretty interesting, eh, personas. The one thing that I have found makes the game really enjoyable, and a bit easier to play, is look at them as if you are watching them in an anime or something. I have laughed at what I have pictured my character doing in response to certain things, then acted it out with wonderfully fun results.

this is kinda how i picture cantr. just a huge anime with tons of characters and many different story arcs going on at once.
