Favorite Gender to Play?

Postby NostalgicMelody7 » Sun May 26, 2013 5:02 pm

Today, it occured to me that I have always played more female characters than male. It's like a 20%-80% ratio. Not only that, but my female characters are almost always better developed and are more enjoyable to play. The thing is, I'm a guy myself.

I don't know the reason why this is, really. It may be because I have always had more female friends than male. It may be because I'm a more... Feminine person. I don't know. But I was wondering. How is it with all of you?

I play half and half. I think recently I've enjoyed males more. My characters tend to have sex with females more often than males, (even if they were females themselves).

At the moment, I mostly have males, but it's usually about 60% male and 40% female. I don't really stick to traditional gender roles - many of my male characters have worn skirts and flowers in their hair whilst some of my female characters have been quite masculine. In real life, I guess I'm more of a neutral person leaning towards masculine as I am male.

I agree 100%. My females are all very different, whereas my males are pretty much just different shades of the same. It's probably 50/50 with me, but I do enjoy the ladies more. However, I don't consider myself effeminate in any way.

It could be a psychological distancing that allows you to play the females more differently than your males from each other if you are a male.

If you mean psychological distancing from myself, then yes. I am more them when I play them than I am me. My guys are much more "me."

Judging by how many female characters I've spawned compared to male (4m:10f), I'd say I like playing female characters better.
My first male was a bit of a wuss, and I got sick of playing him that way.
My second is alive and probably my favorite male to play in the long run.
My third (Narrator <3) was the most fun in the short run, but he could only thrive in towns with lots of wakeful people. When everyone around him fell asleep, he became a burden and I killed him off.
My fourth male was a spur-of-the-moment idea that was never really enjoyable to me.
I think if I had more males like my second I'd enjoy playing male characters more.
I don't think I can ever make another one like Narrator. For one thing, I don't play often/consistently enough to keep up with it.

This is my issue, I think. In many ways I prefer playing female characters just because all my male characters always seem to become more and more like me as they get older. It's easier to distance myself from the women.

9 males, 5 females for me.

I like playing both, though I guess most of the things said here count for me, too, my female char's being more different from me, than my male char's.

From all the replies, I'm starting to believe that it might really be a psychological distancing sort of thing that makes a guy's female characters more interesting. The opposite gender is kind of unknown territory. Of course there isn't really much of a difference between men and women besides their parts, but the differences society has forced upon the genders are pretty much set in stone - do something slightly feminine, and you're shunned as a manly man. By playing the opposite sex, we can be more... free with our thinking, maybe? We can do things that we may have wanted to do as a male, but cannot, as it is against the social norm. The desire could even be subconscious. So, that might be expressed through our female characters. I dunno.
