Discussion regarding Forum Moderation

I'm moving this here as suggested.

Usually one could get something discussed among forum members in other threads within the Public Discussion Forums section.

Also note that forum rules are not a democratically enforced set. Being a member on the forums means agreeing to adhere to the rules set forth by the owners/operators of the forum. If you have a problem with any of the rules pertaining to the forum, it would probably be in your best interest to PM a moderator so that they can address them.

Perhaps it would help me to know who exactly are the owners/operators of the forum, and who sets and interprets the rules and enforcement of those rules. Is this a different governing structure from the game?

The owners of a forum can generally be found by researching the domain name that the forum is on, unless of course they have used domain shielding that most registrars provide. Even then, there is an email address that one can utilize to email the owner of said domain name.


The operators of the forum can generally be categorized as moderators, or anyone who has the ability to moderate the forum, or various aspects of it. I believe all PD has moderation capabilities, GAB for sure, and CD.

No difference. Jos owns the forum, and the GAB are the decision makers unless he put in his veto on some issue.

Okay, then the forum is operated by cantr staff and is actually part of the game of cantr. Cantr staff members interpret the forum rules and enforce them. I'm just suggesting that perhaps some of this interpretation and means of enforcement might be up for discussion, just as any other suggestions from players might be.

As far as I know, the staff of Cantr has always been open for suggestions and discussions of most aspects of the game and surrounding services. We have an open suggestion forum, and we allow (non flaming) posts of discussion in the general forum section. I'm not sure where you came from, or where you are going with this topic.

If I'm right, my interpretation of that is that any INDIVIDUAL infraction on the forums is not up for debate, but the overall rule could be discussed if necessary. Sort of like real laws, I guess.

Yes, kind of. I think in general the rules are pretty reasonable, but subject to interpretation. I'd like to discuss the interpretation and the means of enforcement. Of course, I say that because I seem to remember reading the rules, however I can't seem to find them now. Where exactly are the rules? I think it would be helpful to any new players to have these easily accessible.

Isn't that just the terms of service? I mean I know they're rules but at least from my time doing moderating I've become accustomed to forums having extra rules that are posted separately on the forums but in more detail to what the rules are.

Subforums can have special rules or guidelines, like we have in the suggestion forums. If there are no such notices, the above quote is what goes.
