We had some issues with a hacking attempt again. But the improvements we have made to our systems made us catch him rather fast, and all of our extensive loggings are being prepared for delivery to the police. We need to make a little adjustment to security and make sure that the db is consistent, then we will open up again. Eta is quite unsure because people have school and work to deal with, and asshats like this wannabe hacker fucks life up for everyone involved.

Aww that sucks =( that's so uncool, are these like former players that are ticked and keep hacking cantr, or do people really hunt down random rpgs to hack into just to be jerks? I always thought it was unusual how often cantr is hacked. But I haven't played many rpgs, maybe they always get hacked... in any case, no fair DX why can't people just do productive things with their lives? Hacking... the hobby of total losers.

Ignorance is certainly not any better...

Destructive and illegal hacking is indeed the hobby of losers, but to lump all into the same category as those asshats is ignorant. I am basing my career around hacking, countermeasures, and NetSec is general, and I sure as hell am not a loser.


EchoMan, no need to apologize. One silver lining to this is that each one of these attempts has only made Cantr security even better and as frustrating as it may be for you, your work is paying off. Now...too bad we couldn't exact Cantrian justice on this guy!

I always thought the difference was between hackers and 'crackers' (not the racist term).

We had some guy give a seminar in grad school who was pretty famous (If he was that famous, why can't I remember his name?) who called himself a 'white hat' hacker and worked with police departments and security for some corporations.

I appreciate the 'white hats' we have here in CDLS, Echoman, Pies and a few names I am forgetting right now. You all are great people and the time you give to us is golden.
