oh, a question, I looked but missed it it the answer is there. do animals go feral, or revert to wild if say, you neglect feeding them? or some other means?

Yes, they revert to wild if they go without food long enough. The exception is that if there are no wild animals of the same type in the location, they die instead of reverting to wild.

I can answer the first part. The notice is still visible with the owner's name when the owner goes away.
As for the latter, I don't want to find out for myself! :)

seriously? so you can't establish a wild population of an animal in a new location even if the terrain is right if there are none to begin with? too bad, I had high hopes lol

I guess that eliminates the possibility of repopulating islands with animals that are extinct, but I think it would be really hard to extinct a species now anyway.

I am just wondering if there is any way to check if an animal has "grown enough" for butchering. My char is waiting to butcher a rather large animal and it is tiring to separate the animal from a pack, go into your inventory, click on the cleaver, choose the right animal, check its meat level, go to the objects page and join it into a pack again... and repeating this process to monitor its progress.

I think, once a domesticated animal is separated from the pack, you can see whether they are 'Fattened' or not in the Objects page.

'Fattened' isn't an indication of an animal's meat level at all. I can't really recall what Greek told me regarding a previous enquiry that I had, but I think it was something like the word 'fattened' just being a general description.
This animal has been fattened for ages... and its meat level is still only at average. The previous 'fattened' animal my other char butchered gave 0 mutton & 0 animal parts.

Hm. Strange. I thought those descriptions had a purpose. I'm sorry (Also, a butchered animal giving nothing at all sounds like a glitch, to me)

I'm loving animals but it is SO HARD to keep large numbers of them fed. If there are bulk, harvest machines that pick potatoes for you, I'd think there would be a place for hay-makers, grass harvesters, things like that. It's very hard to maintain a 'large herd' ranch.

I wonder if there's any chance in convincing to allow reseeding populations in places that do not have an animal but are of the correct terrain type? as we can see in the wiki? to allow them to go ferel in those locations rather than just die because there are none of their kind there, even though the environment would otherwise be perfect for them?
