Encryption

If a char wanted to create a encryted note, and told other chars who would get these notes what the code was, would it be a violation if the player wrote the code out by hand and used it for his char, or would his char need to have a note. I'm just thinking to make it harder for others to possibly break the code. They couldn't just kill someone and get the encrypt code.

You can make notes for yourself, but you must indeed make sure that you char has them too, for when he is killed or something. You cannot keep too important notes separate.

What if your character is the master of memory, and can remember everything and anything? Would that count?

Or is that just stretching it? :P

Uh oh, for basically all my char's, well i have rather fewer in comparison to the common 15, I seem to memorize their history, past meetings and dealings-but the notes I do keep.

I'm just running this by to make sure my understanding's straight- if you have a code, you must have the key, and so must your decoder.

Well just incase I there was any confussion as to what I was getting at, I'll give an example, however if it is still decided that it shouldn't be done in the game then I'll abide by that :)


Lets say your Char is a leader or in charge of an army. You want to encrypt a note, but first you need to give the key to the code to the other char, so he can read your note. You give him the Key to the code (This must be done in game not on messenger or by email) You instruct the other char to memorize it and then destroy it. At this point the player of the other char, could copy the note by hand and keep in close by. Then he edits the note, erasing the code. Now when the other char gets a note that is in code he knows the char will know the code from memory. This way when he dies, the key to the code won't fall into the wrong hands


See every thing is in game so I don't see the CR breach, but I thought it better to ask here first. And as I said, if it is decided that this should not be done, then I'll abide by that

And why not? A person can memorize anything they really want to, just by parcticing. Don't believe me? What is 2 + 2=? Didn't need to think to hard about that did ya :lol: Besides our chars have memorized all the types of equipment, and tools one can build

Just to be sure: there is nothing wrong with memorizing something without writing it down in a note. Of course :) ... But it's somewhat close to cheating to remember things by writing them down as a player, and then act as if your char remembered it all :) ...

I mean, there is no clear rule here and it is impossible to check anyway. But you can sort of imagine for yourself. If there is something your char obviously remembers it might be somewhat ok, but if you are really using the fact that nobody can look on your computer to keep notes as a player, so that if your char is killed nobody will find your notes - that really is sort of cheating.

If you want the code to be memorized, make it an easy code :) ... If it is a complicated code, then just roleplay it properly and have your char make a note. It's that simple :) ... And if you, as a player, need a note to remember the code, surely the same holds for your char.

I'd say, that after a bunch of uses of the code, and after a year or two of having it on hand, the character would have it to memory.

During the World Wars people were trained to remember codes in order to call attacks from the battlefield back to the destroyers in the sea, as so that the enemy forces couldn't understand what was said. They didn't have a note on them with the code, mind you, they had to remember it ;)

Also, I myself have committed the entire Runic Alphabet to memory, and I know it by heart. It only took me a week to memorize. A code, although being harder than 32 letters, could still be memorized.

I did remember an alphabet I made up myself at one point. Trouble was, nobody else learnt it.

But it isn't dificult to do that much.

A simple transposition code doesn't need a note to remember it.

Thank you Jos :) I can understand how it could be cheating, and I guess there are other ways of working this as well, which I won't discuss due to the 4 day rule :lol: But Jos did have a good point, if the player needs a note to remember the char in turn should have one too

Eh. Some of my chars are smarter than I am. o.o; And their memories are separate from mine. I love multiple personalities <3
