As the title said, I will be tossing subjects at your minds in the hope of feeding your creative machines to spew out developments most will see as interesting!!

In edition one the following:

MULTI LINGUAL ISLANDS!

Everyone knows them, most people are ON them... I have found that almost NONE of the Spanish players ever take any notion of the other languages and unless forced, never type their RP in English. Needless to say, it annoys me.

What do you think? Should people in multi-lingual towns necessarily write their RP in English? or another language? If so, why? If not, why not, wouldn't it annoy you if you couldn't read what was going on while your char is witnessing it?

First of all, I know some Spanish chars that -do- RP in English, so no complaining about that
I do, though, know the frustration of people emoting in their native language when English (or other languages) speaking people are near. I think, if the person -can- speak English, he should emote in English; the people speaking the other language would still know what they're doing, right? Of course, if one really doesn't speak English, we can hardly force him/her to emote in English
For the rest of the roleplay... I can imagine a char would not be interested in learning a language, and that's fine with me. Just please, emote in English...

My personal opinion is that if you can emote in both languages, you should emote in both languages. *Spanish/English*

That said, i don't find it too much of a burden to put foreign emotes into google translate.

Edit: My character once hitched a ride with a ship of Poles. The fact that they stopped emoting in English for my benefit after a few days caused me to part company with them much sooner than I had intended. There's a difference between Google translating an emote here and there, and doing it for a day's worth of events.

I don't know if it's been said, and I'm pretty sure I'll get flamed for saying this, but I've thought in the past it might be nice to have some buttons for some basic emotes, nods, smiles, frowns, shakes head, etc, and these could happen as an event that cold happen in the perceivers language.

I emote in English everytime there is a not-Spanish-speaker near me, but, you know, languages education, at least here, is not really good. You have to study English for years and years but most of children at the end of secondary school can't barely write a short text...

So, thing is... Most of the people who don't emote in English, simply can't.

Anyway, I use to adapt to the place I am. If I'm in a Spanish comunity, I probably won't emote in English if my emotes don't involve the newcomer. If there are more than a couple of people, I'll do both or only English.

Emoting both, as Doug says, seems the best option to me, but, honestly... I'm too lazy to write and translate anything a little elaborate. Working twice? You kidding?

Well great, but this is not really meant to get us solutions, we have a suggestions forum for that It's just to discuss, answer the questions I posted in the first post for example Give us your opinion!

I disagree 8000%. I have an english speaking character on a spanish island and have had some of the best RP's. I do not speak Spanish at all but I love to play that character

You know, lazy ass, there -is- a wiki-page with basic emotes in a -lot- of languages...

Well I'd didn't know that page existed, and it will help me in the future, however, I still think the emote buttons would be great! I'll maybe put it in the suggestions from another time.

Could you please change the topic to something that is relevant for the discussed content?

I react differently depending on whether I as a player speak the language they speak or not.

If I don't, I simply emote in English.

If I do, I emote in their language and English, hoping that they will realise that I speak their language and that my character would also speak it (after the imposed two years) if they give him a chance to stay. Doesn't always work, unfortunately.

I can disagree. My post, while not very clear or eloquent, meant the multiple Spanish speaking characters I have encountered, not only emote for me in English, they do a better job than me, the native speaker. Your fact is a generalization from your experiences but not entirely true... so to sum it up... nuh-uh!

i don't rp in english for the time than i need to do it. When i finish to translate a rp line, situation has been changed, and is out of timing. is a bit frustrating.

I feel that it is up to the player absolutely.

I know that I do appreciate it when the emotes are in English, however I don't have the expectation that they should be. I use Google translate when I need to and I know enough Spanish to find my way to the bathroom, so I can make do.
