Suicide button for not wanted characters?

Well, there was a time, where , if you wished to get rid of a charri.. the staff would kill it off for you. Then this changed and they stopped killing them off, so if someone died, you knew the player quit. Now, I again hear so many saying, they are getting x x & x killed off and only playing y.. so we are back to not knowing.. did the player hit the X, or did the player quit just the one that was around yours?

The staff does kill off characters sometimes, they just keep a low profile about it. I think this it's bad that certain people can get masses of characters killed off because they know someone in staff, while others without connections aren't even aware of the possibility. I think the option should be there for everybody as long as they have a good reason.

Which ends up working only for people who know someone in staff, not for all.

Players can come up with what it seems a good reason in that moment, only to spawm some characters afterwards. This was discussed years ago on PD and a suicide button was suggested at that time.

Yeah, they do spawn new characters afterwards... Even people who claim they needed to cull, just because they still want to test if it might work out after all. Wanting to start over for all except a few select characters seems like a valid reason to me, as is not wanting to go on with a singular character anymore since their life is a waste. If culling is the alternative for saving at least some characters' lives then it's better than leaving a player no other alternative but to quit. Often people find it too hard to go through starving a character to death or killing them with a weapon. Not long ago I had to kill off a character with a weapon and I think it took at least six hits. It felt totally OOC to do it but I didn't want a kill-off request handled by someone whose character had bandaged this characters' wounds after a previous suicide attempt.

Some sort of a suicide button would probably save lives of other characters, because I bet there are a lot of "rage-quits" when something goes wrong and people can't just step back and not play a character in a bad situation, but have to murder their whole account just to give a heart attack to get away, or maybe to extract vengeance on characters/players who did them wrong. It's childish and selfish but could be avoided if people had a quick way to kill off a singular character.

Another thing I'd like to see is when someone is about to quit, they would be presented with a text box for each of their living characters and they could enter last words or last emote in them. Because if someone is about to quit, they find it too hard to go to every character's page separately and type something out, especially when they might see events that might make them change their mind, and they wouldn't want that. But if all the last words were written from that page, they wouldn't see events and they would all be posted at the same time, so there would be no chance of people replying while you were still writing something for a character at the bottom of the list. Of course people couldn't be forced to write anything, but presenting the option might reduce the amount of people dying without a word or an emote. And seeing all the character names might make someone come into second thoughts when they realize how many characters are about to die.

Split from the death character thread.

The ability for a few to get chars killed off seems a tad unfair, why is this allowed to happen at all?

I think if there is a suicide button that there should be some sort of variable that it might not work, kind of like a lock breaking project. Then too, if someone happened to come across your char while it's in process, they could theoretically hold an intervention and drag your char off the project. Could create some interesting rp opportunities, and might stop the player from dropping that char after all. Especially if boredom was the reason.

I was thinking this. But then again I was also thinking I'd like to hack some accounts to make people's char's suicide, so my opinion is not necessarily a good one hehe.

Maybe there should be a required inactive period for a character before they can be nuked. Something like a year? That would eliminate a lot of problems of such a button.

I'm definitely in favour of the idea. I have several characters I want to kill off, but people refuse to let them starve.

Why hack? You can just create interesting scenarios in game that will drive their chars over the edge and into suicide. Be devious

Not a year, if it was a year, they might as well use starvation. If there's a considerable delay, people are again going for the fast way out and this was supposed to prevent that.

If a suicide button is going to be used as a way to retain players, it should work the same way the X button does. ;)

There should of course be certain limitations to prevent abuse.

A blockage in the slots like in the case of suicidal newspawns, for example.
