Sails in Cantr compared to RL
I was just reading about sails on Wikipedia and found out that a jib is a staysail that's leading forward from the foremast. In Cantr, a jib is connected to the mainmast. It makes sense in the sloop where the mainmast is the only allowed mast, since that makes it also the foremost mast, but pretty surely everybody can build both a mainmast and a foremast will eventually do that, then the staysails connected to the foremast would be called jibs, or at least the outermost one would be. Also a topmast would surprisingly be located in the middle of the mast instead of the top where the name would suggest, but for weight balance issues it does make sense. I'm not sure how big the "jib" connected to the mainmast would be or where it would be located in relation to the gaff main sail, I guess above it since there would be empty space. I know nothing about sailing in real life so if somebody does know, I'm curious of knowing would a sailplan like this actually work in real life? Do people generally assume that ships in Cantr have as much sails as they would in real life (and in logical positions) and that the ones built only represent the multitude of sails present?

I think you think too much causing me to think about things I never thought about before.

I don't know but considering that in Cantr a ship with no sails whatsoever and seemingly no method of propulsion other than the tide, is able to go twice as fast as a sports car, I wouldn't hold out much hope.

lol You're both funny. It's always been difficult to compare the speeds of cars and boats so I haven't really even tried. I imagine people would get really butthurt if one day it was decided that all boats required something to move it, if not sails then oars and people to operate them. Even if it was scaled down to Cantrian numbers, it would be seriously awful, I'm not sarcastic, if you needed 8 or 10 or even 6 people to operate a galleon when you can now do it with 1 or 2. People have just gotten used to cruising around with their big ships, not having to rely on others. They take along friends and other passangers if they're entertaining enough, young people if they work to be worth their keep (assuming you have enough work to provide), but nobody would want to be suddenly be forced to keep a crew.

Oh sure I'm not suggesting that should be changed I was just responding to your question of whether something in cantr actually works the same in real life. I appreciate you need to take some liberties with realism in cantr, else it's no fun.

Like the fact that it took several months to built galleons with a couple of hundred people?

Or that it only weighs 26kg. We could pick at those points all day.
In response to the main question though I'm not sure about the others but a sloop irl would definitely work with a mast, jib and a gaf rigged mainsail, that's pretty much a sloop by definition.
