Jjos - the solution to the too easy / too difficult balance is maybe to have the resources be a little dynamic in the new islands.

When you start the island leave some key resources available but have those resources "dry up" relatively quickly. For example maybe have a very small iron deposit somewhere (the PD can turn it to hematite a cantr year or so in) and also make sure there's some easy food to gather for a short period - Let the first gruop start to become a little established and then gradually toughen the situation up. Ideally they should adapt and organize - if not then they die.

I always thought Chirac was a little lesser on the manners and alll, didn't know all of france was like that.... =D

Please don't compare me with Chirac and don't make his character a general French feature!
I know you don't care much about what's happening here, but you'd change your mind if you'd heard about the last elections...

Compare New York to Tibet.

That's right!
Tibet has a far more developped culture than New York!

1 - Nitefyre: that was pretty rude of you to say, YANKEE. I am from Texas, and I find a lot of French to be much nicer than New Yorkers.
2 - Hahaha, Emandir. I have to agree with that last comment.

Actually, I haven't had too much trouble in the French area, if but to stay alive, although I suspect one of my characters will be farming mushrooms for a LONG time. However, in the Spanish area, there is nothing BUT food and crap like cotton. And I've travelled through three places and found not a single person, though five bodies in the last place. There are so many animals there that all that happens is you get attacked continually and progressively lose all of your strength. The only safe place is to be on the road.

You need to make sure what New Yorkers you are talking about. Yes, the city people are assholes but us Upstaters are quite nice.

And the comment about New York having less culture than Tibet, obviously that person has never been to New York and going to the city doesn't count. You have to go throughout all of New York State. Around where I live, there is a lot of Dutch, Irish, Italian, Chinese, German, and African influences. And that is just in one small part of New York State (remember New York is a huge state, one reason why it is called the Empire State).

Plus some of the most powerful leaders of this country have come from New York State.

stop whining about food in the french area, my character even has a restaurant over there....although he can't make pastry dough, even with all necessary tools and resources...

We apparently don't mean the same when we say culture...
I really can't see how a country that has born some 200 years ago can have more culture than an age-old one...

What an example!
Following you thoughts, I can say that Corrèze has the most interesting culture in France!

You should really take a good course on American History. I think you mean more about history rather than culture but the thing about America is that it is a whole lot of cultures meshed together.

Plus, we have Native American culture as well and that is a few thousand years and it still influences the culture where I live pretty much but that might be because I live in a Forest where Mohawk Indians use to live and the Iriqous Nation once reigned.

Ah, you Americans! So touchy when it comes to your culture and history!

I think you mean more about history rather than culture

Uh? History is just the report of past events: if you take the case of America, you can tell the history of several cultures...

the thing about America is that it is a whole lot of cultures meshed together.

And what about Europe???
Being my self French-Italian-Swiss-German-and-God-Knows-What-Else, I can assure you that what we call French is nothing but a great mixing...

we have Native American culture as well and that is a few thousand years

I won't argue with you about this... Dangerous ground!

Anyway, if you've got such a great culture, why don't you export it?
For us Europeans, American culture is McDonnald's, Nike and Tarentino

Let get on with the topic instead of defenselss Americasn, K?

I do think that not having too many resources can have a positive influence on the level of organisation in a location or area... Take tha Dutch island. There's Sil in about the centre of the island, and it's just jammed with resources, wood is 1 location away in 2 directions, iron is to be found 2 locations awway... There's no organisation at all and no one cares. Egoistic as they are, everyone works for themselves and ask huge prices for something simple as as simp-le as a letting someone use a trowel...

Lanoi on the other hand is situated on a remote corner of the island... There's only one exit, leading to a location with stone only. To reach an iron deposit or other resources like wood, etc.. long voyages must be undertaken... That town is more communist like. Everyone worked together and the people were generally a lot friendler. Shotage of a resource led to collecting parties and expeditions... Alas, most travellers don't survive, as the surrounding locations are crammed with dangerous animals... But still, untill recently, that location was a lot more developed as the resource rich Sill. Lanoi even has a harbour and a lighthouse, which Sil has not...

Several attempts have been taken to get Sil organized, but the people there just wont accept them having to work for the good of everyone instead of themselves. The elected leaders got ignored, if lucky. I know, one of my char's was the last leader and it seemed to go better for a while, but she was abducted and killed, that was a while ago already, and no new leader has been appointed since.

Well, Americans, by nature are isolationists mostly so we try to keep everything here. And it is the Corporations who export that shit like McDonalds, Nike. And well Tarentino is a, well, Tarentino.
