It is an innate sense- much like sight or hearing. They just know. ;)

Well, just because the interface presents you, the player, with the exact numbers, a character doesn't have to necessarily know them as well.

Could you imagine them trading without the characters knowing though? "I'll trade you a fistfull of iron for eight fistfulls of corn" "No fair, your hands are bigger than mine!"

Right! I have some very naive/dumb characters who have no idea.
You say: *he/she widens his/her eyes* A lot!
X says: How much are you carrying?

Cantriians carry a scale with them in their giant kangaroo-pockets that doesn't register as an actual item in your inventory and has no weight value.

It's the only logical explanation. -nods solemnly-

Are they carrying a compass too?

Yes, I know... But it's the same with weight, isn't it?

Makes as much sense as weighless clothes and the fact that everyone weighs 60 kilos.

P.S. Piscator, I miss your salamander avatar.

The same with them knowing, or able to figure out, how to make everything. I figure all newspawns are gifted with a handbook when they spawn.

Honestly, everyone gets so worked up how the characters know certain things, but I realized lately, that we've just been taking for granted the fact that the characters can all speak a language fluently when they spawn, which is kind of silly too when you think about it. You either need to suspend disbelief or assume that spawning means something other than just poofing into existence from nothing. If they can already know a language, you can probably assume just as easily that they already know a few other things too.

My character is writing a religious text explaining all of this, so no worries. She'll be more than happy to sign a copy for you when it comes out.

Your char spawns at twenty, they are not morons. I play anything in the wiki as common knowledge. I do get caught however some char saying what is this....I ignore it. My chars know weight, most trade values, and what they need to survive. If I have to teach you stuff I know you can see in the wiki too, you are suffering from me teaching your towns history...

I wouldn't say everything in the wiki is "common" knowledge. I'd say a great many things could be, and everything is up for a character to know something about, but I think the nuances of some things are good tools for RP- through learning and interaction. The aspiring apprentice eventually becoming the master over time.

I don't think -every- character should act like they know exactly how make intricate weapons, even though it's in the wiki. They may have a basic idea... or if they're good in that field (not necessarily saying by skill, just if the player would like them to focus on an area), they may know exactly how. Nor should they necessarily all know what cotton (or any resource) is, if they've never actually seen it (picture or actual thing) or been told about it. Of course they're not morons, and they should have a concept of the basics... but not walking encyclopedias that know all the workings of the world.

Actually.....hmmm, all cantrians should be spawned with the following:

a) A cantrians guide to everything (aka the wiki)

b) Weightless invisible compass

c) Weightless invisible scale

d) A weightless invisible gear levitation device

e) ABC, cantr lingo, gangster speak and language..."Mummy has a spud, The potato is an aeroplane. Weeee. Mmmmn"

f) OOC, IC, um, well everything else thats assumed...

g) A complete guide to not spawning as a complete douchebag *yet to be written*

If cantr were an comedy improv, there would be serious laughs, I am sure. Suspend disbeleif? Sure, just like I suspend disbelief during lord of the rings, or spiderman 3!!!! ;P
