I'm asking because I recently killed someone who was trying to make all animals in my town extinct, and there's only one deer left.

Animal mating (animals making more animals)
Was this ever fixed and reimplanted into the game? And If there is, say, one deer, will it go up to 2 or will it just be one forever.

one squirrel in our town was enough to produce another.

Re: Animal mating (animals making more animals)
If the system is working properly, the last of a species in a location becomes immortal, so if you don't kill it, eventually more should come. HOWEVER, if the total number of that species in the game hits its hard-cap, none will be born. IF that's the case, it's likely that the surrounding locations are overflowing with that species. However, with deer, that's not the case because their hard cap hasn't been reached yet (assuming is a normal deer and not a fancy deer).
Once Jos fixes migration, things should balance out more.

I guess the system's not working properly, then, because the peacocks died out in Karnon Fields, where it was illegal to hunt the peacocks because of their number, even with wasters.

How can you be sure that someone didn't kill it when you weren't looking?

Because my char there never goes inside. I'd've seen it in my event log.

Re: Animal mating (animals making more animals)
I thought animal mating/migration was turned off, but in one of my towns they were down to like 3 of each animal and 9 moose (so we knew exactly how many we had of each) and then this morning there were 12 moose. Was migration turned on and I missed it?

Re: Animal mating (animals making more animals)
If I understand this system properly they do migrate but if you are living in an area that has a non developed town they are probably stuck there for awhile forcing you to gather hunting parties to bring the numbers down in empty locations because there is a cap on the number of each animal in the game. The only one not capped is the deer. *holds her breath waiting to be corrected*

Yeah but wasn't migration turned off?
And if so, what are you supposed to do when your neighboring town has a no-hunting law, and -you- can't tell them the reason WHY you need to hunt THEIR animals because the reason is OOC?

Elsewhere Doug said that animals in unpopulated towns had been wiped out by GMs. If that's true, I would guess that most species wouldn't be near their world limit. He also said that the animal scripts had multiple issues and were not acting predictably.

Animals in unpopulated towns have not been wiped out. O.o
If you dont like the town next to you forcing the animals to live there, try reason, war, or making them want to hunt by trade. I think its a smart move to try to control the animal population in your region, if you can afford the healing and force trade on animal products from you neighbors. Everything should be valuable.

But what reason is there for my char to want to make him hunt his animals?

Re: Animal mating (animals making more animals)
Do you want the meat, bones, hide, or fur? Do you want to be able to beat the crap out of animals and make that a way of life for your people? Are you bored and just want to make some rp? I live in towns with no fur, some with no dung....man up and force something interesting, but again be willing to lose a char just for the fun of it.

Re: Animal mating (animals making more animals)
Migration is still turned off. I greatly upped the reproduction rates of some legacy animals a few months back. That would probably explain your three new moose.
