Cantr II Discussion Forum

Okay, the title might be a bit confusing, but I have one character (Lexi) in Blajlokin (Neederwaag Kluis) that keeps getting harassed by someone that doesn't pose and just steals stuff the whole time, but I could live with that if the following wasn't happening:

3067-4.20: Je verwondt aanvaller nogal handig, gebruik makend van een composite recurve boog.
aanvaller verliest 0 procent kracht.
3067-4.20: aanvaller verwondt jou nogal handig, gebruik makend van een pikhouweel.
Je verliest 29 procent kracht.
Je schild was nutteloos tegen de aanval.
3065-7.05: Je verwondt aanvaller nogal handig, gebruik makend van een composite recurve boog.
aanvaller verliest 0 procent kracht.
3065-5.17: aanvaller verwondt jou nogal handig, gebruik makend van een pikhouweel.
Je verliest 19 procent kracht.
Je hebt nogal handig 14 procent weten te redden met je ijzeren schild.

Aye, it's in Dutch, sorry for that, but basically he keeps hitting me for a load of damage ignoring my shield and every attack I made does zero damage? I'm so not enjoying this... I've lost 2 characters to non-RP and abuse of game mechanics already, I'm not going to lose a third and stay happy...

There is a 33% chance of hitting past a shield, as far as I can remember. He's probably better at you in fighting, and your character might also be weak and his character strong. If it seems likely that he would eventually kill you, you should rather run and try to find others that can help rather than stick around, unless he has you locked up in a building.

Edit: I used google translate and it translated the quite skillfully differently in different sentences, so I didn't notice it was the same term each time.

I thought the chance was somewhat lower (20%?), but Seko is right about the different strengths. You also can't attack and defend as good as usual if you're wounded or tired, so if you are unable to heal the damage you recieved in this fight, you'll become even worse at fighting.

We're both somewhat handy at fighting, so that's not the thing, is it?

Either way, this means /I/ have to move and leave a spot I was trying to cultivate because someone refuses to roleplay and just goes attack?

I noticed the similar skills, but it might still be the strengths or the wounded- and triedness.

About your conclusion, no, you don't have to leave the spot because the other one refuses to roleplay. You have to leave the place because someone better at fighting wants to kill you. That has nothing to do with RP and could happen to you in RL, too.

You could try to find help somewhere else

In RL it's hard to not act, eh.

This is just so wrong IMHO.

In RL you would instantly notice if someone hit you, and you would instantly act accordingly. In Cantr you don't/can't. In Cantr, you have to run away if you want to stay alive (unless you were already dragged indoors behind a lock) which IMHO is a serious flaw in a society simulator.

Wait a minute, we're not talking about one of the hit and run situations here. The attackee had plenty of time to respond. The problem is simply that he is unable to do damage.

Of course it is not, but since every humans point of reference is RL, what else should we compare to? In RL you see someone carrying a claymore from quite far away, and you keep your distance. You'd probably die if hit, but only if you didn't do anything to protect yourself/dodge or whatever.

In RL (most civilized countries anyway) if someone was to walk down the street with a claymore, they wouldn't get very far without being arrested/shot/tasered/tranq'ed.

I agree whole-heartedly. Some games (like this one) are better if they don't completely resemble real life. Granted, there are some things that should still be kept as real as possible; for example, your reaction if somebody were to hit you with a crossbow in real life, if you don't die first. If it were RL, I would run for my life.

In any case, Cantrians are much different from people in RL. For example, nobody in this world could get away with eating only twenty-eight grams of grilled meat a day, and it takes about an hour to make far more than some one-hundred thirty-three grams of grilled meat. Not to mention that in real life, to use a Cdls quote (I think? Correct me if I'm wrong):

In RL, no amount of onions can cure a steel battle axe to the face. I don't care how organic that damn onion is!

In Cantr, however, if you somehow survive that, you can eat a bunch of onions amongst other things and it's as if nothing happened within a few clicks.

Anyways, Cantr is not RL; it's better in some aspects, but others are completely up to you (like whether or not to run when a mob of angry expert fighters all armed with crossbows and steel scutums are mad at you).

If I were to see someone I don't know walking down the street with a claymore, taser, gun, et cetera, I would be walking the other way. Granted, Cantr is a little harder to do that in, especially with the ticks and such, but if they were to attack, I would run as far away as I can.

RL is the only thing we humans really have experience of, unless you are mentally deranged and live in your own world that is not of everybody else's (which we somehow consider RL...), or you spend endless amounts of time reading and making up fantasies of worlds that are almost nothing like RL (except that somehow the population there all speaks your language fluently).

Okay, I'm done now. With all my input. Which probably didn't change anything. But oh well.

As long as you dont hide weapons you can walk around with them in the US. Or if you are at a Renaissance Fair do you run away from people with swords? No, because you expect a certain law to be upheld. In Cantr it is more like the Wild West, it is only bad if you get caught by someone strong enough to do something about it. The society of Cantr is far from advanced, no matter what the technology level is.
