All Alone

Postby FrankieLeonie » Thu Jul 08, 2010 6:42 pm

I currently have a toon in a remote section of the world and killed the stupid polish guy that was there about a decade and 1/2 ago. I have seen some ship sail by, but do not expect to run into any humans until I leave my town again.

So my question is What is the longest one of your characters have been alone? Did your character get lonely or develop any personality disorders because of it?

Raggar.

He was pretty much alone his whole life, everyone claiming to be his friend (except for a couple) abandoned him. He lived for close to seven years, and he did develop some mental issues, but he helped everyone he came across, giving away things he thought they might like as well as food that he kept cooking.

All of this paid off with a bastard named George who decided to trick him, steal from him, then lock him away and have him murdered. So once again, F**K you George!

So yeah...seven years is the longest any of mine could have been considered alone.

On of mine, only 3 years. He'll pretty much kill anyone he sees but he was like that without the isolation

I did have one that bumped into a guy in the middle of Fu recently who said he hadn't seen anyone for 10 years - he seemed pretty normal.

2 1/2 years - travelling alone, hoping to find a town where he would feel better than where he came from. he finally did, at a time when he didn't expect to meet anyone and wondered if he'd be alone for the rest of his life.^^
actually, i created this char to be a sociable, easy-going guy, so he really longed for reaching a town, when he was alone. before he travelled, he was unsatisfied with his life and began to write a diary. writing this diary and other notes became very important for him while travelling. and i have to note, that i myself never wrote a diary, i'm just not the person for it.^^

Oh, but I thought there were quite a few people at PFS when George attacked.

I haven't been counting the days or years, but I've had several characters that have been alone a long time. One called Lewis spawned alone in the mountains, wandered through Querk and Kwaki to get to the Quillanoi region, and I don't remember how many years it took him, but it made him rather unsocial and introverted. He was attracted by beautiful women but didn't know how to approach them. Then he ran into a hooker who gave him some out of pity, and they were together for a while but I don't remember how they separated. He was also escorting some lady from Reniov Mountains to Stofer Mountains but he never got to see her again after that. One time he saw a key on a ground, or maybe it was more than one, and asked who it belonged to. Maybe he got a thanks, but certainly not any material reward for not trying to steal it. So when he was in Quillanoi one of the leaders died, he just picked up the keys and went hiding in a building and demanded an escape vehicle. He had maybe ten buildings but no healing food, and he was a novice fighter, plus people managed to wound him by taunting him to come out and reply. Finally people broke into a building where he was sleeping and killed him without a word being said. They even got people from Lake Village to help. But he managed to trick a couple of people into following him into unlocked buildings and locked them up. That was pretty wicked. Later one of those guys went nuts and pretty much repeated the massacre thing, even succeeded in killing one person.

Then I have a Swedish explorer that has spent most of his life alone.

Then I had someone who got locked up for two or three years and could only communicate occasionally by dragging notes under the door. His sanity started cracking after the first days, but I think it made him a better person, at least slightly. He used to be an arrogant bastard.

Another one got locked up by maybe less than a year but it sure felt like a long time. Or maybe it was more than a year. There was quite a lot of communication through notes and the captor did come see her every once in a while, but never stuck around for long. This caused a radical personality change and a fear of getting locked up again.

I'd summarize that for my characters, forced isolation tends to do the trick very quickly (ie. cause various forms of insanity), while necessary isolation due to traveling or being in a location with no people can be tolerated for years because they're free to move and work towards advancing personal plans.

Tyson Braddock was alone for decades. He mapped Burgeo, alone most of the time, then started mapping Fu by himself.

What are your views on these isolated characters? Me personally, I enjoyed it as it was something different, although his death left quite a bad taste in my mouth, I would not have changed a single thing.

I had one other one, back on my first (or maybe second) account, he spawned up in the mountains and the people there were sleepy so he moved on. He was what you could call a survivalist in that his whole (short) life was based on survival...he cooked, he ate, he made tools as he needed. When he finally got injured really badly (over 90%) he knew it was time to leave his isolation and find something to heal himself. He finally makes it into a town where there are people. Considering that the only other time he has been around people was in his spawning, he wasn't sure how to act, so he kinda cowered off to the side. Well...not that much longer after that, two people come out and BAM, hit with spears and killed. No communications, no nothing. I think he was about 24.

On my last account I had a guy that spwan on an island (I still have no clue which it was) because of two sailors. They shortly left him there. I spent about 15 years buidling the place up on my own. It was great. There were two or three people who walked into town every now and then but they always died. I single handedly had went off and found everything I needed and brought it all back. Managed to get iron going and everything. Some of the most fun I've had.

Yeah, I have been there...I have regretted each time I have unsubbed, but at the same time, I cannot be too bitter over it because it allowed me to create new characters who got to lead completely different lives, each of which I have enjoyed.

I have had two big loners, one gets intermittent visits so doesn't really count. The other, Jasmine, was about to leave with all of her belongings that her and her long dead master made. Gonna look for a better safer place. Pirates always seemed to show up when she would leave for resources. Well when she was almost ready to leave some asshole, can't remember the name kidnapped and killed her. She was alone for probably 15-20 years. She did develop a kind of paranoia from the loneliness. I have two other characters that are outcasts with only boats for homes and one that might as well be alone, all the newspawns die or get killed by animals. The others people come and go, never staying long.
