Cantr Objects Database Program

As stated in another post somewhere else on these forums, I was in the midsts of creating a Visual Basic program which will allow people to look through all manufacturable objects, while logged off, to see what you can create. When completly finished the program will allow...

- Full Manufacturable Listing of all Items, Tools, and Resources required
- Search feature to find manufacturable items with the materials and tools you specify
- Add/Edit/Delete Items and Resources manually, since Cantr is an ever changing game
- Other stuff...

So, yeah. The program has the database in there (Without Clothing items, sorry) which you can browse, and you can add/edit/delete raw resources. Which is no use to do, really, seeing as how you can't add/edit/delete items and tools yet... so, yeah.

The program is NOT complete, as stated, you can't add/edit/delete tools or items, nor is the search feature implemented. At the moment, only the database is there to be browsed.

So, then, why am I distributing this now? I want others to look at it, find any bugs that may be in the program at the moment, and any suggestions for changes.

Plus, there may be places where the items are input WRONG (Ie: Wrong amount of material shown, wrong materials shown, tools incorrect, days incorrect, etc.)

There is one thing wrong with the program, already. The amount of days is NOT completly accurate for some items. The database was a moron and changed all decimal numbers to a full integer. I only changed a few back to decimals, but there's still some that are full numbers. If you see one, tell me, so I can fix it.

You can download the database program from two mirrors, my main home website, and Geoshi---cities. - [EDIT] I've uploaded the source code for anyone interested in such a thing. Jos and Nick are mainly the reason I'm posting this, they both want it :P - But incase anyone else does... here it is.

Mirror #1 (Compiled Program): Download!
Mirror #2 (Compiled Program): Download!

Mirror #1 (Source Code): Download!
Mirror #2 (Source Code): Download!

Use the second mirror whenever possible, please. And, support Cantr! :D

[EDIT]: I forgot to say. Right now it's VERY mundane moving from object to object. When I releace the full thing, it'll be much easier to get around (Items will be in subcatagories, use a scrollbar to move around the items, etc.)

[EDIT2]: Just so everyone is aware, your computer must have two things. Visual Basic 6.0 Runtime DLLs (Which you can download at Microsoft) and WinZip or any other unzipping program to open the file that you've downloaded. WinZip is reccommended, because I have the file compressed, and so using WinZip to unzip a file zipped by WinZip is usually ideal :P

Also, I'm putting a list here of bugs found so far:

- Days listed may not show correctly (Ie: Wrong values, because the database rounded the decimal values around)
- Changing the name of a resource does NOT save the new name of it. This is fixed.
- ...Found a bug? Send me a Private Message, or post here with the details.

If I had Visual Studio on my comp I'd help ya with it Anthony. I was planning to do a similar thing in school, so i may have a few things to suggest. And I may want to add a few things to it with your permission once I get access to the programming computers again at my school.

Is what I got when opening it with winword.zip or something. Is there a program to open it with?

Are you familiar with Microsoft Access Database Intrigration using Visual Basic? :P (Wow, that sounds so high-tech) If not, it's easy to learn just by looking at the code. Of course you'd have my permission. Tell me when you get VB6 :)

It's a .ZIP file. You need WinZip or a similiar program to open it. Inside the Zip file are two files. An .EXE file (The program) and a .MDB file (The MS Access Database file).

Oh yeah, if the EXE messes up your computers, can't hold me responsible :P - I scanned it for viruses, said there were none, but you never know.

Make sure you unzip with the latest version of WinZip, it uses some compression features, and I think only 5.0 and above have them...

Idiot cpu not using winzip as default.

*searches for winzip, finds about 5 different ones. Opens winzip one, installs it, unzips cantr db. finds exe file and grins*

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

*Laughs* The WinZip program is WinZip32.exe - I think. But, yeah, if you got it to work, goodie. :P

I can tell you how to set .ZIP files as WinZip default files, if you'd like. Just bug me on an Instant Messaging Program, I'll walk ya through it - If you want.

Get <a href="http://www.winace.com">Winace</a> instead. Much better, you can open other types of archived files with it.

I have WinZip, WinAce, and WinRAR :P - I like WinZip better out of them all. It may only be able to open three or four types of compressed files, but it's encryption algorithms and compression ratios are impressive :)

Anthony, if you want to have unlimited ammounts of custom resources to add, you can change the code so that a variable counts how many are added and you can redimension the array(s) containing the information about the resource.
