Handling downtime
ok, cantr has been hacked. This is really fucked up, the game should be suspended until problem is solved - but you must know how to do it right.
Putting a blank page as the main page is wrong. For the players and for potential players (SEO and people who get there from an ad). A green page with an announcement (just like when cantr is baking up) is much better.
Plus, a link to the forum. Not all players use it on a daily basis and not all of them have the url to it. Even a direct link from there to a post explaining the down time.
This is true for every downtime longer then a few hours. And now we're talking about days.
The fact that the game is down doesn't mean that the site should be down as well.

Re: Handling downtime
There should be at least a link to the forum on that page as especially new people won't be finding the forum easily. Of course they can with google.
There is no rule that says I can't post as much I want. I asked my lawyer.

Re: Handling downtime
Sending people to search something that you want them to find is stupid, just give a link.
{and this is true across the whole WWW}

Re: Handling downtime
All well and good but this is a suggestion so should be placed in the suggestion area, not here, which is the general discussion area. I suggest this should be moved from here to there. Of course this is also a suggestion but sue me.
And me writing this just shows how bored I am.

Yeah, you are right, it is completely stupid and nobody does it
Of course, if that was actually true, then Google would be irrelevant, and last time I checked, it is not.
Secondly, yes, a link would be nice, but stating that one not being provided is stupid is well...stupid. Lazy ignorant dumbasses (Rigel-clones for example) are the main ones that would benefit from this. Those that really want to join the cantr forum community have either done so already, or would use Google or other means to try.
Third, stating that this is true across the whole WWW is ignorant in itself. If this were in fact true, then we would have never migrated away from link repositories and Google (or other search providers) would never have gotten popular.

That is SWEET! Thank you.
I vote to make this the default "Cantr is down for maintenance" screen from now on.
