Where do I start?

Ok, stumbled across this game and created a character. I started out and have no clue what to do... I read the wiki page on what to do your first day in the game. I've read all the notes on the ground and harvested some potatoes so I am not hungry... now what?

There are lots of buildings around, but none are marked 'public' and apparently I can be killed for entering a building I'm not supposed to enter, so I'd like to avoid that. There is someone trying to drag a dead body and I'm attempting to help her, but apparently the guy weighs too much for 4 people to move or something because we're not having any luck.

Anyway, some general questions:

1 - I see I have 1877 minutes left in this "Turn". How long is a Turn and what happens if I run out of minutes? Can I no longer play this character?

2 - what is something good for a new player to do? I have no gear, or no clothing that I can see. I see other players with shiny armor, or carrying weapons. Where do I find those?

3 - while I was standing around trying to figure out what to do, a raccoon attacked someone standing near me. Can I help kill the raccoon? If so, how?

I'm really confused :)

Don't worry about it, this is left there out of .... reasons. Don't ask why :) You cannot play more than 2000 minutes a day... However a day has only 1440 minutes so its endless. Used to be less in the past tough.

Develop a personality for your character! This isn't one of this games where getting the best gear is your top priority.

Shields help against wildlife attacks.

Minutes: Pointless, ignore them.

Cantr items: Moderatly pointless, but ask if you want them. Some characters will tell you how to make them or how to out right get them. However the only item in game your characters will NEED is a shield of some type.

Thanks for the info.

Another question if someone can help - next to the "Talk to All" button is a countdown timer that goes from 40 to 0, then says "RQ".

What is that timer for?

The page used to auto-refresh, but that has been diasbled as far as I'm aware. Ignore it, just like the minutes.

Oldroad, I would suggest reading over the entire "The Basics" section from the Wiki to get yourself started. It will explain the interface buttons as well as give you an idea on what to expect, as well as a couple roles to try out for your first time playing.

Once you have some food and a basic wooden or bone shield, it's pretty laid back, survival is handled, you don't have a lot of pressing worries. Time to look around who else lives in this place you are in. Time to think up something interesting (or the opposite, dull and everyday) you'd like your character to be or represent, and then start expressing it.

If it's a coastal town you might be able to get yourself into a ship's crew. If not, see who's the town leader and what they're up to.

The main thing is being regularly active. Other people notice that, your character gets more and more attention and responsibilities.

You should start with reading.

http://wiki.cantr.net/index.php/Your_First_Cantr_Day

http://wiki.cantr.net/index.php/Game_Dynamics

http://wiki.cantr.net/index.php/Game_Mechanics

And if you can understand German.

http://wiki.cantr.net/index.php/Informa ... tr-Spieler

Don't worry, Rome wasn't build at one day. When you have time read it, it helps very much. ^^

1. Playtime used to be limited to 200 minutes a day per player to conserve bandwidth, but it got extended to 2000 (=unlimited since there are only 1440 minutes in a day) as a temporary experiment that seems to have turned permanent.

2. As catpurr said, develop a distinct personality for each of your characters. Set them different goals. These are probably affected by the place they spawn into. If someone is spawned by the sea, they might be interested in joining a ship crew, while if someone sees a lot of animal attacks, they might take an interest in hunting and worry about getting a good shield. Generally it's advisable to get a shield even in peaceful locations since you never know what might happen, but if a character has never seen or experienced violence, they might not realize the importance of a shield. Some might also claim that they're heavy and difficult to carry and that "surely no one would attack me since I'm such a nice person". It's generally good to ask if anyone could offer you work, mention what you'd like to earn (but if you set your demands too high, it might be that people don't have those things available or they could take years to earn).

3. You can hunt by clicking on the picture of a jumping deer that's on the location page.

I think I actually saw the events page refresh itself without me clicking anything, so it might actually be functional for English characters.

Despite whats been said, it is fun to have stuff. Just like in real life. But the way you go about acheiving that is a bit complex. You can gather things for trade, travel and build your own things. You can work for other people, and they may pay you for that. Or you can just be extra helpful, and chances are good, if you ask for something later, theyll help.

But yeah, start with some goals, like to travel, or become a soldier, or a tailor, or to start a healing clinic. Have a look at what things you can make in the wiki, there are some fun professions.

And interesting RP is what does make it in the end. Making freinds, or enemies, having allies, or a family, and making their life better, in RP, they will make yours better. You could have a disability, accent, mannerisms, a silly sense of humour, a kind heart, a stern pragmatism.

Hope that helps. But it terms of things you might need, depends on what you want to do. Hammers and knives and needles are fairly easy to make, and useful. Other tools can be handy, if you have a craft or job to do. Some are good for gathering, which is handy if you want to be a traveller/trader (like shovel/pickaxe).

Sheilds and food are the only must. But I personally think getting some clothes helps define your character...

Style is all that matters, baby! :P

# He is in his eighties and is efficiently working on project 'Manufacturing longboat .............. He seems much stronger than average. He wears: a close-fitting, full length leather surcoat, featuring a row of tiny metal buttons countered by strong loops of leather. Its hem flows magnificently with the slightest movement. The high collar and shoulders accented by thick epaulettes bestow an air of strength upon the wearer [undress];
# a pair of leather pants which hug close to the skin, leaving little to the imagination [undress];
# a pair of leather boots with cords of leather to fasten them securely around the ankle. They rise about a hand above the ankle and are thicker about the heel for more support [undress].

Some advice would be to join an active group (and well RP-ed) and just RP. (; Most of my wealthiest characters were given their wealth just by helping out with a group like a clan or an army or something.
