Vehicle fuel

What information is available to guide us in making plans for the upcoming implementation of fuel for vehicles with engines? The Wiki entry on "Engine" gives a formula, but even if I calculated a number with it, I would have no idea of what practical meaning the number has.

Can a vehicle run out of fuel on the road? Or will it not be permitted to leave a town unless it has enough fuel to reach the destination? If it runs out of fuel on the road, will it be stuck or move very slowly? Will it appear at the originating town (as happens with the death of the occupant)?

If out of fuel, the vehicle will move very slowly. The details about fuel production will yet have to be updated, so don't trust the values in the wiki.

Now that the fuel thread cherry has been popped, I'm curious as to how characters are expected to rp the implementation of fuel. Are our charries just expected to ~know~ it's going to happen? Are they psychic?

In some towns, leaders are assuming that fuel will soon become profitable. Based on what in game information? Isn't this a CRB?

I know things can't just grind to a halt on January 1st, so I'd like to know from more experienced cantrians/rp'ers how their chars will deal with the change...

No. Cantrians understand the mechanics of the world they live in to a degree the normal humans do not. When a change is announced, it's assumed that all characters can feel the change coming, and adjust to it.

It has to be this way, otherwise, how would it be fair?

Here is a suggestion for this that can be looked at after January. But if the vehicle will move very slowly, could the char not get tired at the same rate? This would make sense....what do you do when you run out of fuel on the road? You either hike it to the nearest gas station, or you push your vehicle. I think the latter will be RP'd but I think the Mechanics of the game should cause the char to grow tired slowly.

I have to say that I am not filled with confidence about this change. If existing parts of the game, like animal spawning, are broken, what's going to happen when some new (and probably pain-in-the-ass) mechanic gets added? I hope that the Powers That Be are prepared to roll the game back if vehicle fuel is a flop.

Fuels are able to be made in a many ways. Even when there is no fuel, the vehicle moves, so it's not stranded there. As for Rp. Chalk it up to instinct.

Kind of like how your characters know how to make a car, lol.

Play dumb if you want.... or have magic knowledge of the Wiki... no one will call you out on it.

And if they do, tell'em to go puck themselves.

This is one of the few times when religion might come into it... the prophets can foresee this coming. Of course this relies on most of the population not being prophets and demands, (shock, horror) a bit of role play.
Or as above, play dumb, and blame it on the tortoises, werewolves or whatever evil spirit you must have blamed for all the adverse changes in the past.

That chick who blamed the tortoises for everything was funny! XD

I had one of my characters just look at the engine while he was in the car and could tell that it didn't look like it would work much longer without adjustments... fuel is the adjustment that was determined.

It's not incredible RP, but it works for me.

Something people got mad at me/my character for doing (a long long time ago), which I deserved, was my character saying I knew how to sail when my character had never done so before. They were looking for people who could direct the boats. It's true that I shouldn't have said that, but it's not like it's hard to sail...(though I admit it's confusing in real life, if you actually have sails)
