The best and the worst...

I forgot the worst part of Cantr! For me it is waiting for others to respond.

The best part? Creating a character in your mind, but then instead of having to create everyone else too you get to stick them in a situation and see how others react. So much more fun than writing a book (though I enjoy writing too) because you aren't in your own bubble so much as mingling bubbles. :-)

So what is YOUR best and worst for Cantr??

The worst for me is wanting desperately to play but no one's awake, sitting there trying to resist making another character just because I'm bored.

The best is when my characters react in unexpected ways to situations. I find it continually fascinating how extensions of my own mind can behave seemingly independently of that mind. This happens in my writing also, and tends to derail plot outlines, but makes a truer story in the end.

Worst is... well, just read the bad RP topic and look for my posts.

The best is when characters create something together that will always be there, be it in the mind of other players or in the game.

That's a really good best - I still have fond memories of characters from several years ago, some of which I don't have any idea if anyone else remembers or not but they live on in my mind :-) and it is also fascinating to come upon interesting building names etc that reflect those who lived in that town before you.

I completely agree! I have afew characters that I can remeber plain as day, and I played them about 2 years ago.

Also, I walked into a town a few weeks ago and there was a monument built to one of my characters that died almost two years ago. They must have built it after he died. That made me feel very good to see that still standing and remind me of that character.

The worst moments in Cantr are when I am so bored by a character that I find it a chore to check them, and actively avoid it. Thus, they sleep, and become more detached from their surroundings.

The best moments are when I'm involved in solid, satisfying, long-lasting RP, when the people I'm playing with seem to be actually putting effort into making their writing sound good.

Agreed on that note -- I want more than *grin* or *nod* but give me facial expressions, eyes, hair, body language. Give me more than a few words to work with and I can play on that. :-)

The worst part, for me, would have to be the delay. I KNOW that Cantr is "slow paced" but that can be the problem at times. Especially with mechanics that AREN'T slow paced, like "combat" and moving.

THE BEST PART, for me, is having my awkward and amusing characters interact with others. From what I've seen, my character behaviors are an odd trait in Cantr. Not extremes of one or another but something in the middle of two different types of "staple" Cantr behavior. My characters receive LOTS of RP opportunities because of this... it is indeed the best part of Cantr. But, sadly, my characters are too much "like me" so they seem to be able to be "picked out" when RPing with others who know me via the forum or IRC.

Hopefully people still react to the character vs the person. I do my best to keep those separate in my mind as much as possible when I know the person behind the character -- and hope they do the same.
