Don't worry, it is. Unless you want to carry several thousand kilos of goods of course, then a galleon will still be faster.

Nice, twice as fast! I don't regret spending so many years on getting sails then. The boat will be around even after my character is dead.

Better than that. It is not possible to have boats who travel with 100% max speed, becose every one gram on it slow it down. And you need at least one char, propably weapons, tools, cargo, food etc with you, too. So boats move with more limited speed.
And how sails work with that? They dont double effective speed, they add extra speed. So if raker without sails and not to big cargo travel with 80% base speed, fully sailed travel with 80+100=180% base speed, more than double speed.
And raker with many chars and stuff on it what travel with 20% base speed, fully sailed will be travel with 120% base speed, so 6x faster.
Sails are usefull.

Wow thats awesome. I was wondering exactly how the sails worked on ships. I currently have a raker and I am in the long process of getting sails on it. I am glad that it will be worth the time.
