A place

I was thinking about ideas that could stimulate currencies to be actually used and to stop people from gathering all their stupid things (even food) all by themself.

So then I got the idea of a whole new island. An island with a tiny grassy area with just carrots, wheat, wood, stone, cotton surrounded by mountains.
There wouldn't be any animals other than really tiny ones there.

In the mountains live stronger animals. Wolves, cave bears etc.
There are also valuable resources to create new things, such as machines and tools to build houses.

The people could easily live a happy life in the grassy area and farm for carrots all day. They would make simple tools and machines outside to cook the little meat they get from the tiny animals that live there.

Soon, people would build cottages to live in. And with the wood and stone they'd make tools to build furnaces. Meanwhile people go out in the mountains and gather new resources. After a few years they return to the place in the grasslands (as they wouldn't be able to live in the mountains with their stupid wooden shields).

People make iron. With which they are able to build new things.
Such as the millstone. At this point, the carrots slowly start to dissapear from the town and people are forced to make bread instead.
The people aren't able to just make food now. They'll need a millstone.
But of course the others do, too! So this needs more cottages, which requires more work.

People would want clothes. So there will be tailors. The tailors need food.
So the tailors make clothes to get bread. But not everyone has bread.
And the ones with bread might not need clothes.

Here is where the currencies come in. They'd make a coin press and make their own currency. This way people would buy clothes and food from the people who have it.


I think the reason people don't NEED money is because they can get their own freaking food! If the area they live in FORCES them to do such a thing, I'm sure there will be currencies.

If this island would be created, people could ask for a character on that island.

I'd like to hear some more opinions on this idea.

It sounds CRBish to me to give players the option of spawning a character specifically on that location, since players would already know what the island would be like and what was going to happen and exploit it, but if you want to haxor the Cantr server and steal the sauce to make your own "similiar" game with such an island, then go ahead! :P

My example is just an example. :P
It would be different from how I explained it and what is going to happen will also be different, allthough stimulating currencies to be made.

The only CRBish thing would be the easy-food dissapearing IMO.

Hmm, I don't really agree with you on that. I don't think being able to choose where to spawn is a CRB.

I said that because else the people who want to experience that won't ever get to experience it. And the people who don't want to experience such a hard way to live would be forced to.

Both would encourage suicide.

There is a much easier solution to force cooperation, trade and probably the use of coins. Limit the number of skills a character CAN have to about 5 (character's choice which skills). The character cannot perform any task that uses a skill he doesn't have.

Joo - Cantr isn't real life. And I'm glad it's like that. People play Cantr to have fun, not to have the same annoying things they have in real life as well.

Hmm... That sounds ok. But there would have to be a few basic skills such as BASIC COOKING, HUNTING and FIGHTING.
Else you'd be unable to do anything at all. ._.

EDIT: And there's the fact tailoring is SLOOOOW. It should be faster, srsly. :roll:

Not a bad idea....

Maybe they should be able to everything else, but at a much slower rate (10-20% speed)

Hmm, I like this idea. It would be a good way to make people use currencies.

Also, people would have to hire bodyguards, as fighting is a skill, after all.

If people would get some sort of a bonus for eating varied foods then that would give people incentive to produce different foods instead of just digging up what's fastest to gather. This could be combined with natural healing. If a person continued eating only one type of food a day, they would not heal automatically but if they ate several things, their healing rate would go up.

Likewise clothing could have some effect. Maybe on tiredness, since it consumes energy to produce heat.

A bonus for a varied diet would make food trade a lot more interesting. It also would make all kinds of cooking more interesting, and make running a restaurant/food shop a real possibility.

Actually it's already been suggested in the past. Someone even wrote pseudo code for it but people still thought it was too complicated.
