Anonymity problem and general confuseness.

Hi all.
I'm quite new to this game, it seems quite perspective, especially by what I read here on forums.
Anyway, apart from the slowness of everythig (which I just have to learn to cope with I guess), there is a problem of anonymity.

Having 10 'a man in his twenties' events, besides being totally confusing, looks silly.
So, is there a way to find out the names of characters without inquiring every and each of them?

Oh, and one other thing: how long has this game been running? I see you have a lot of history, which is too quite confusing and overwhelming.
It seems it'll take me a year to just get a hang of who's who.

You learn most chars names by either asking them or by paying attention when somebody else does.

Or watch the reaction of some townsfolk when someone familiar returns.

Concerning local histories there are some good books around in the game itself. Or you might ask one of the older looking chars, some of them are really keen when it comes to storytelling

 Ain't it, RKL?

Indeed in the beginning it seems that projects take a long time. But when you eventually get 15 chars, who all have important and busy lives, you will see that this is an advantage. Otherwise you would go mad  I spend to much time on cantr as it is, so when things would ga faster I would be playing it even more  .

And it's fun finding out everybody there names.. that way you really need to interact as in RL, you don't know the name sof pple you never met in RL.

Jeah, it makes sense.
But 15 characters! Ain't that a bit too much? I am *certan* I lack the memory to keep track of all of them.

I even have trouble running 4 characters so I keep detailed information about everything that they do in inventory (not that they do much except farming :( ) and that is the most occupying thing right now.

Stick with your 4 chars, with the amount of time you seem to be putting into them it won't take long for things to get going. Get involved in what is happening in your towns, ask names, people are used to telling everyone their names. Ask people to tell you about the area's, I'd say most are very interesting.

Well...soon, you will be thinking 15 is too little hehe

With the amount of time I waste on cantr everyday, I'm glad i've only got 15. I'd trade a few in for dfferent ones, though.

Just kiddin'.

also if someone does something notable or interesting and you want to remember who they are you can give them a temporary name just to keep track like "guy who seems to be in charge" or "annoying person".

Yes, there is a lot of history and most of older players don't know the true version and our characters are even more confused than we are.

Still makes for good stories however, and since it's normally the people on top that write the history you can expect things to be distorted depending on the point of view of the story teller and what info was available to put together.

 I wouldn't say that stories are untrue- just biased. :)

Actually, there is a profession investigating the history of history. Finding out why history was written like that, et cetera. Called historyography. Believe me, dont belive me, but its true.

Yes, true, but where does one start in this investigation?
