Something needs to be done to revive interest in Cantr, I think a good idea would be having discussions about Cantr on message boards for massive multiplayer games. Maybe have a discussion where person A asks if anyone has played the game and then have other players respond and then person A says he's having a hard time dealing with the slowness of the game and other players discuss how if you have 15 characters the game never has a dull moment. Maybe have people discuss what some of their characters do as well. Just a thought...
I already started one such thread here:
http://www.onrpg.com/boards/109840.html
I tried to not make it sound like I was advertising the game so the thread wouldn't get locked. If someone wants to respond talking about how Cantr is unique and there is no other game like it that would be great.
Right now this is only what this message board says about Cantr
Cantr II - Not sure what this is about. 4 *Needs patience, you should only play this a few min. a day*
That 4 means it's rated 4 on a scale of 1-10...not good.

Do you mean characters or players in the title?

If you're trying to help Cantr, I think removing this post would help. You're saying, in essence, Cantr's a great game, just no one's playing, so I'm looking for another one just like it that has more people.
How does that help Cantr? What could anyone possibly say in response to this post that would encourage people to join Cantr? Why would they want to join a game that no one's playing?
While I commend the marketing enthusiasm that seems to have gripped the Cantr community of late, I must stress that there is a reason why the marketing department exists: So that things like this can be discussed before they are implemented. Yes, it is true that the MD has been defunct for years, but that is no longer true. If you want to help, send in a marketing department application. It's a work-when-you-want department.
Again, I commend the enthusiasm, but when eveyone's doing their own thing without oversight, it makes MD's job much harder.

Players, not characters, Seko.
389 Players
2185 Characters

Oh, that's a relief. Although 400 players is not much, but I was thinking surely the character situation can't be that bad.

Glad an MD member said that. I was afraid to say something and get a Dudel you know what go play your Syrnia if you like it so much!
With my Cantr II counting this I was really sad that no one even knew my favorite browser game even exsisted. I wan't people to at least say: "Cantr II? Yeah thats an okay game. I don't have the pacience tho." Thats fine but at least you know what the heck I'm talking about. The name just needs to be out there more, Cantr is so obcure to the 'average' gamer, even the 'meta-gamer' dosn't even know it exsists sometimes. Thats the real problem! (Great game for meta gaming if your on at the right time by the way. I would know!)
The time system scares a lot of players off too, but I'm not suggesting that it be changed except for maybe not taking time for every little thing. Exit building (2 ticks) Say: "blah blah blah" (2 ticks) Check inventory for that thing you grabed inside (2 ticks) Use that thing (2 ticks) Create project (2 ticks) Participate in said project. (2 ticks) I'm sure its not exactally like that, but its kinda bad none the less.
Why do I have to register my participation in a project I started? Thats an annoying feature. Another thing you shouldn't be able to start projects if you don't have the resources or tools. Error Msg: You do not have the minimal amount of resources/tools. How hard is that error msg? I don't remember who said this but yeah a back button on everypage would be nice to. But I press my back button on my browser so its okay.
A few things there would greatly increase players becasuse the interface makes a lot of people leave Cantr too.

What if you're starting a project for someone else? I think it would be nice if pages like dropping an item, adding a resource to a project, starting a project or adjust sailing would have a dropdown menu with all the pages and you could select where you want to be redirected to after the action is carried out. Maybe you could set your own defaults and the game would remember your selections.
Also when starting a project there could be a checkbox for "start working on this project if all resources were added". It would be checked by default but could be unchecked if you're setting up projects for someone else or are going to work on them later on. Combine this with the redirect dropdown menu and you could start several projects in a row using the "add resources automatically" option and be redirected back to items menu without having to wait for the page to load to reach the button.

What would you rather me say?
"Cantr is great! whoo!"
No, what I want you to respond with is "what are you talking about there are plenty of people who play" and if we get 10 or so people talking about how great Cantr is, it will be a topic of discussion. You can't have a discussion where you have a million people all agreeing about how great something is, you have to have points of contention.
Of course if you don't like my idea thats fine, keep it up with your brilliant ideas guys. 400 count and dwindling. With a 4 out of 10 rating on that rpg message board btw.

What about something balanced? What you basically say is "Dont play Cantr.", the complete opposite of "Play Cantr!"
Something informative and balanced should do the job.
And OnRPG is full of people who ****ed up the term RPG. The whole reason some people say Cantr isn't a RPG.

You know, I actually like his plan. Have all of us reply to it, saying why Cantr is such a fantastic game, and make it a hot topic. I bet, I bet that players will skyrocket in the first few weeks. We just gotta make it sincere.

You can't have a discussion where you have a million people all agreeing about how great something is, you have to have points of contention.
1) Don't you think a conversation about a game conducted exclusively by people who just joined the forum won't look just a
little suspicious?
2) The only way to argue with your statement is to call you a liar, but it's not a lie. While there are towns with more than three people, I think it's safe to say that three active characters is pretty much the average per town.
3) If you're going to promote cantr through some grand scheme of dissing it and then having people come in and argue it out of the hole you put it in, wouldn't you think it's prudent to have those people lined up and their arguments worked out before you post?
4) Why do you think anyone would care about a borderline flame war about a game they don't play? Why would a bunch of people arguing about a game make them want to come and play it?
5) If a million people agree something is good, it must be really f**king good.
Anyway, it's a moot point. The post is already buried.

Not only are there not a lot of people playing Cantr, but the current players are so desperate to get new players that they will stage a discussion about the game on a random forum...

You know Joo, why don't you revive some dead players? That would certainly help out.
