Storage items - why so expensive?

I know RD has wrestled with this thing in the past but I find it silly that some things are made inefficient just because having realistic capacity would nerf the old containers (which were completely out of line).

I'm mostly annoyed by the burlap sack. It only stores 2000 grams even though it uses over twice as much cloth (based on weight) than the canvas duffel. All this because if it was too cheap, people would stop making the other storage items. Yeah right. If someone has access to both hemp and cotton, of course they're going to prefer hemp over cotton because it's cheaper. That's what they did in real life as well, they used burlap because it was cheap and the appearance of sacks didn't matter. The canvas duffel is supposed to be more expensive. It's not supposed to be made by people who have access to hemp. The burlap sack is supposed to be cheap. It was made to require scissors to make it a bit more high-tech so that not everyone would have them, and the build time was upped to 3 days, which is quite ridiculous taking into account that it's clearly smaller than a canvas duffel that only takes 1 day to build.

Also there haven't been any sorts of leather bags even though they were originally just waiting for buckles to be implemented, and now buckles have been around for a long time so that's no excuse. Some might prefer having purses and such with a cloth-like description but it's not possible to attach clothing descriptions to storage items, they should just settle for having an informative name.

Many people have said "why make storage items if they don't add to your max carrying capacity". Well, they're supposed to be there for organizing your stuff. But containers that store less than 3 kilos are only good for very small things.

There should be portable crates that hold about 20 kilos and are designed to be moved around by dragging. That would be very useful when stocking ships. I checked the wiki and the current crates hold 1000 and 3000 grams. That's more like a box. 1000 grams is one kilo, the weight of a milk carton. Except in America you don't have milk cartons, you have gallon jugs. Well it's smaller than a gallon jug. And milk is not very dense. Solid things like iron would be even smaller. Cantr may be unrealistic when it comes to large things like boats and buildings but with medium things the weights are more like in real life.

Also there are no primitive containers. It seems like everything is based on the idea that storage items are luxury and only rich people are supposed to have them. But who's going to suffer if there were cheaper containers? It's true that you can't make them deteriorate because the contents would vanish when it crumbles, but even if there were cheap containers, it doesn't necessarily mean that people would stop making the more expensive containers. If there were stuff like hide sacks that were visible when carried, people would be likely to start using something more advanced when they can reach the resources to avoid looking like savages, just like they stop using loincloths once they can afford better clothes.
