Forests grow on hills and mountains too. Some of the best yielding silver mines in the US are in the desert. Pretty flat there.

Yes, the terrain appearance does not affects the geological formation of it... But bonding with this question, how rare is to get food resources on moutains?

Not very...
There's some small mountainms near where I live and there's plenty of food on them.
