I wasn't able to find any topic like this using the search function. So I decided to create one.
Use this topic to discuss your thief characters, and others' thief characters.
For me, the most succesful theft attempt was when I stole about 15000 grams of iron ore, and 8000 carrots with a friend.
Or when I stole 12000 grams of apples, apologized, returned and gave back 2000 acting like that was all I took.
Later on I traded it for 2000 grams of steel.
What about you?

I once had a character pretend he was the leader of a town, made people work for me. Made them make me a boat and many other things, including forging some steel (which, ironicly was stolen from him later by an unknown bastard). Then I "appointed" someone has leader and left. It was funny and very lucky.

I don't think I have ever had a successful thief unless pillaging entire towns count.
The best successful thefts/takeover attempts I saw were a long time ago. The first was when a local business woman went crazy, locked up the town leaders and guards in her building, and then declared herself leader. My character was a town leader and a business man as well and only barely escaped because the woman happened to have a thing for him. She ruled for quite a while as well until the infamous reset f**ked everything up. That was also when we all figured out that dragging oneself can keep others from dragging you.
The other one was when Quillanoi was taken over for a while by a bunch of brigands. Although the best part about that one is how the people of Quillanoi were taken hostage but through sheer luck were able to somehow take back the town against impossible odds. One of the greatest moments I have ever witnessed in Cantr as well as one of my favorites.

Got tired of sitting around town doing nothing. Got a recurve bow from the leader, looted the town of all its valuables and clothing, stole an unlocked galleon and then, rather amazingly, escaped a pursuing sloop. Ran in to my chasers several times since and they've never even realized it was me.

Some nice stories so far.
Anyone else her ever tried seducing the town leader?
Or perhaps becoming a loyal worker of some place and slowly on, when the boss is away, take some valuable stuff?
And wish I was around in the old days. Would have been great to see a community being built from the start.

One of my characters stole two rakers back when you could get through the lock from a docked boat due to a bug. The same character also once docked to a town and found this one chick standing inside or next to a longboat, which was unlocked, so my character systematically moved all the valuables from her boat to his and took off. I still think that was rather funny. Maybe not so much for the victim, though. And earlier he stole a good load of stuff from another boat, which may have been one of the rakers he stole. When the lock bug was fixed, he was stuck inside the ship but ProgD was friendly enough to move all characters who had entered places before the bug fix.

One of my characters moved to a certain pirate town and joined them. But shortly afterward a dispute broke out between the leader and some wannabe leaders that went on and on. Being fed up with all the hostility and shouting back and forth he went into the harbor to work. He spent four days breaking into one of the ships and succeeded witout being caught. Fortunantly there was a storage in the harbor he had a key to and he cleaned it out but was generous enough to leave them the hide and bones. Then he left and sailed far away, but before getting on the ship he left a note saying: "You've been had by *characters name* have a nice day." That's the best one I can remember.

Probably my best one which has been talked to a lot has done a lot more than just steal. Manipulated the leader of the multi-city organization and became town governor. Eventually stole everything from the town (organization depended on it for iron, steel, and other things) and took off in a raker. From this, he almost killed off the town and its people, and may have starrted a war. lol

I've had a few that have stolen stuff, but are not really bad people or thieves.
One of my chars stole a soarer and everything on it, but no one was using it and it lacked a lock, so anyone could have.
And two of my characters have looted their dead friends for weapons, shields and keys, but neither of them have bad intentions.

The type of stealing that really pisses me off is the covert, opportunist type whereby you might notice something's missing, and know that someone had the chance to take it unobserved, but you have no proof and don't even know yourself whether they actually took it.

Joo, that's how the REAL thieves work.
Weight tests can be useful on them, though.
