Vehicles and Dragging

I did a quick search for this and nothing relevant turned up, so I decided to post anyway. Please don't flame me!

Anyway, I was recently in a situation where it would have been advantageous to drag a person off of a certain vehicle; however, we found this to be impossible. Could someone clarify to me how dragging and vehicles works, and if it is possible to drag someone off of a single-occupancy vehicle?

I think so...but they would have to start dragging themselves, get help and then stop and assist one of the people that is dragging them...but I doubt thats how you would want it done.

If the person inside the vehicle is dead then you can ask ProgD for assistance removing them. If the person is alive and "uncooperative", then you would have to use your powers of persuasion to change either the "uncooperative" part or the "alive" part...

XD Well said, Tadpole. Although I wished it was possible to drag people out of a vehicle, at least if it's unlocked, the lock has been broken or the outside dragger has a copy of the key.

That'll make it too easy to get vehicle thieves though.

I think Seko's suggestion is reasonable and realistic. If it does makes vehicle theft too easy - which I doubt, since most vehicles are locked in normal operation - that's something that can be remedied by adding another realistic feature or simply handling it in-game.

Sorry about that, my mistake. I'm not a vehicle thief so I'm not really sure, but don't most vehicle thieves move away from the area immediately?

They do but, say you accidently left your bike unlocked and an opportunistic person takes it. Then you catch up with them in the next town and because you have the key you can drag them off on your own despite being weaker than average. That'll switfly kill off another profession in game.

If you can indeed catch up to the bike thief - for instance, by borrowing a faster vehicle - then it seems completely reasonable to be able to throw them from the bike. I don't see any problem with that at all.

I would expect the same rules of strength apply. Having the key to the vehicle shouldn't give you extra ability to drag someone, only the opportunity. If the thief steals a bike and the bike is still unlocked, you shouldn't need any key to attempt dragging them off it. Someone in a locked vehicle should not risk being dragged off unless someone outside has a key to that vehicle and starts the dragging project.

Realistic - yes - but as BA said, it denies a form of antagonism in the game that should be kept.

Cantr shouldn;t be about precise realism, but about balancing what exists to keep the system well oiled.

I used to play a lot of opportunistic thieves - most of which rightly didn;t last out too long. Yet I still fondly remember a couple, and one specifically - who managed to luck out with a tricycle, as well as a good shield, weapon and a stash of valuables. She raised some havoc later, too, managing to crowbar her way into the stores of a town.

If it wasn't for the ability to feed off of others unwariness, Cantr would become even more dull than it already is - and the complaints about stagnation and old players holding all the wealth and power would increase. Any form of antagonism is welcomed I think.

So, whilst it would make sense to be able to drag someone off of a bike or out of a car, it wouldn't help the thieving profession, which is needed, and is already bloody difficult.

Well maybe misunderstood the initial suggestion and it wasn't making reference to being able to pull people on your own. In which case, yes it's a good idea.

Yeah, you'd still have to have enough combined strength to move the person. The only difference would be that if the bike is locked, then the drag initiator would have to have the key.

I wish that the dragging would also be completed automatically once enough people have joined in despite the key status of the last dragger, just as long as one of the people working on the project has a key. Currently the initiator would have to stop working on the project and switch into assisting one of the helpers, which constantly needs to be explained in-game because it doesn't make much sense.

"You need to adjust your grip." -- "OOC: Just quit the project and click the P button of someone who's helping." -- "You don't know who's helping? Well they should say it, it's not my fault it doesn't show up in the character description." -- "Oh, right, you don't want to alert the target." -- "Yeah, I do suppose a person would notice if they are being dragged."
