Pointing without pointing

I just noticed a couple of times lately that people say things like "I'm Tina and that is Norman" or "*points at Mark*" without actually pointing. This is kinda irritating, since I don't know who one is talking about - and it is also kind of not using the mechanisms of the game that we do have ... Anyone else experienced an increase in such behaviour?

Yeh, I hate when 2 people arrive and one does that... And when they are on a car, and your lazy to click the "people" menu, the first to talk says: "I'm blabla, and this woman with me is blabla2" Then he doesn't point --" People don't make it easy for me and my lazyness.

But it is just as easy to say "Please excuse my pointing" How are others supposed to know who it is you are talking about if you don't point to the person you are naming? We arent mind readers here..

It's a symptom of the lag, at least in part.
It's far quicker to write *points at Jos* (took me about a second) than to click the person page (potentially 5 minutes), locate the right person (a couple of seconds) and then click the point button next to the person (another 5 minutes).

Exactly. Especially when pointing to myself I would never get the idea to do it by game mechanics. And I wouldn't do it either if everyone concerned knows the person I'm pointing to.

I'm of the opinion that it being considered rude to point is an out of character influence. I had someone today introduce someone in a vehicle and take off without pointing, irritating.

Except that you can only point to people and buildings.
Especially when you find foreigners in your town, it would be mightily helpful to be able to point at objects and clothes too...

I think she was just adding what Psyman forgot, Jexter
Yes it would help pointing to objects because not all people understand english. Not everyone knows what's Potatoes....So it would help a lot... Make it a suggestion?

Bah, it has been suggested already. That would be one more button to add to the clutter. It would be cool if there was a popup menu when you click on a resource or an item. Not sure what coding that would require though.
Edit: like those menus they have in Photobucket. I looked at the source code but I couldn't just figure it out. It seems rather well commented though.
Edit 2: And I meant directions like north, east, south, west. Try learning those in a foreign language when you're limited to what ever roads there are. You point down a road and people imagine you meant the town. Directions are rather abstract. But if you could point to the directions that don't have towns in, people might figure out that you mean the direction and not what's in there.
