Well, a few people have been kinda complaining about hematite, and I know alot don't really like the extra complication, but I was just thinking...in RL one person doesn't just go, and get all the raw resources for iron, and make their own...it just takes to long...you get LOTS of people to help you, you establish trade routes, things like that...you work together...just a thought here...

I'm of the opinion that right now it is a bit rough, but I think once iron refinement gets established, Iron will proliferate much faster than steel... just because its not as dangerous... and I guess other factors... its more of an intuition of mine than a fully developed theory.

All my characters already have either the needed tools or enough iron to make needed tools. I can see how this new iron process would make having a screwdriver or trowel out of the question right now for a new spawn. Once hemetite is turned to usable iron and is more readily available, things will be fine... but right now, there are too many iron based small tools that are needed for everyday life.
Its a good thing that there isnt tool decay and new spawns can loot the dead's tools (if the elders allow it).
Tool Decay sounds too much like tooth decay, maybe we should implement tooth decay as well, after all, everyone eats the same foods everyday and are probably not getting the proper nutrition for strong bones.

It seems like most chars don't take advantage of what already exists. Screwdrivers for example, are damned near everywhere. I rarely hear a char asking to rent one, borrow on, or hire someone who owns one.

I started cantr a month ago now, I can honestly say I havent seen A SINGLE TOOL since I started. I gave up asking to borow after no was answered the first fifteen times I asked. So I have been looking for things to make tools, and then the complication I start playing cantr at a time when not only I know whats going on with all this hematite but noone else does. So there you go im stuck unless I pinch iron of inocent people.

no I have 6 carachters, you would have to have an absaloutely cr*p socuial life in order to use 15 characters.

Not really. Submissive workers take little time at all. And sometimes they turn into something more interesting.
I only have two characters that are "active" the other 13 are either working for someone or doing long boring things. Even being a guard would be too much responsibility for these others.

Ya you can have bunch of chars that gather a bunch of food when they are born, and then just travel from region to region. Or stay in one place and gather food all day... heh.

True 'dat: I've got 15 and I spend far too much time on cantr and cantr-related activities every day. I gotta cut back and concentrate on my studies. The first way I'm going to do that is by stopping insulting Indio.
For serious.

Think about it this way: IRL, when you want a tool, do you go to the nearest iron mine and get the iron to make your own? No! You go to the hardware store and buy one. That's how it is with pretty much everything else, too. People don't go get raw steel, they buy tools, vehicles, and weapons from companies whose purpose is the production and sale of such goods. These complications don't make the game any more difficult than before, it just makes it different because now chars have to interact in order to accomplish things. Just as I imagine Jos wants it, riight?

Right. It's as I want it too.

There is a post or a reply of mine somewhere that details "stretching out" the production process to encourage specialization in the suggestions forum... can't find it atm.

Yeah, there is not enough of that out there yet though, and the ones that are dont want the things my chars have to trade wich is basically food.
We need more cities and regions that use a money system so that when you spawn you can find a job, earn cash and start a life. Right now people mostly just want to trade for iron or things with iron, steel, and other things related to that. It's really hard for a new person to get things started.
I wonder why it is so hard for a money system to stick?
